I just read a review on the iPhone over at GSM Arena http://www.gsmarena.com/iphone_3g-review-272.php and I cannot believe that the phone is not able to multitask !

One of the most basic features of any operating system is multitasking - and a smartphone is one that has a descent operating system.

Therefore I feel you cannot call the iPhone a smartphone – so it is really beginning to look like an over prices fashion accessory (almost like 7xxx series Nokias – only more overpriced)

The rest of the article does a good job to explain what the iPhone 3G is all about (or should I say not about). In the past I have always felt that it competes with N-series Nokia phones, but now seeing as though it lacks multitasking I would compare it with lower speced Series 40 phones. :D

The only reason to buy a iPhone is to match your new D&G handbag and that’s about it - Simply put your are buying nothing more than a name with a fancy Gui...It lacks some of the most obvious features that even some of the oldest phones around can perform. To call it a Smartphone would be like calling your Golf a supercar because you dropped the suspension and have fancy tires on.

This is just my opinion btw :D ;)

The 2 megapixel on the new 3G iPhone feels a bit dated. Gee, my 'almost two year old' SE P990i has a 2 megapixel camera.

I was seriously considering the iPhone, but not so sure anymore.

I can't wait for the iPhone to come out here - glad to see that people are losing interest :P At least there will be some stock available when it's released

The interest was never there to start with ;)

Yep, just like most ferarri's don't have 4 doors, and a nokia doesn't have a sleek UI - the iPhone doesn't have every single Feature ever thought of ever. this is normal - but in general I think it's a kick ass phone - do nokia's have huge ass touch sensitive screens with coverflow ?

Iphone is not bad imo its just not anything special, and certainly not worth all the hype...

The definition of what is and isn't a Smartphone is completely blurred. The iPhone is able to function as a competent email device, is able to manage contacts and calenders and you are able to load applications onto it.

How is this not a smartphone? Multitasking is only one component of it. I could argue that there are phones out there that would not be considered smartphones that have al the functionality of a smartphone and are not counted under that banner.

I guess if Gartner call it a smartphone then that's what it is. Personally I think the disctinction between smartphones, PDAs and ordinary phones is a fine line at best.

Disclaimer: I am an Apple fanboi that's not why I hate Windows Mobile I hate Windows Mobile because it is a piece of crap.

Camera is not too great, pics look ok on the small screen, but not always nice on a monitor.

My sister's 5mp Erikson doesn't take great pics either, nor did my D600, nor my friend's N90.

It won't replace your digital camera.

The iPhone is obviously capable of multitasking, I think what you are complaining about is Apple's imposed limit on their SDK of one application running at a time, which is unfortunate but understandable.

What exactly would you like to achieve that is not possible?

Which you are entitled to and by no means should you buy a product that doesn't meet your needs. But keep in mind that just because it doesn't meet all your requirements, it doesn't mean that there aren't people whose needs it does meet and more.

Suggesting that everyone who buys one is buying it as a fashion accessory just comes off has ignorant and bitter.
