iPhone not a smartphone ?

Lets be logical.
Jokes, but that list of what the iPhone cannot do was a bit longer than I thought it would be. But, I think Apple are smart with their statergy. They probably could bring out a super-does-it-all-phone, because those things are not new technologies, and Apple is actually very advanced. But what they do give you, they give you really really well. And therefore, you will want to buy the next model that comes out. (Just as the v1 guys want to buy a v2 iPhone). This is clever.

If the iPhone 3G had every feature that is needed, why would you upgrade after 2 years. They do not want people keeping this phone for 5years +-. (I'm obviously leaving out new technology that comes up for simplicity reasons)

Yep - that sure does sound like the fruit company - choke the customer for every last cent.

But, as has been said, it might not be right phone for me, but there will be people that find it to be the right phone for them. The kind of people that will buy anything with an apple logo on because somehow fruit company products are good.

You were doing so well... :D

Please do enlighten us and give us a few examples :D

Standard stupid slow and boring OS.
Not good quality, not close to the quality of the iPhone.
Very poor design. They all look the same now.
Nokia have no WM phones.
They dont have any touch screen phones.
Their idea of a PDA means the phone should be huge!
They not exclusive.
Call quality is poor, battery life on high res screens are poor.

The iPhone is fresh new and different, its also backed by a powerful media company. People have used Nokias for to long, and that stupid line of user friendliness is old and gone, we not stupid, we can learn new things.;)

Ok everyone listen carefully now!!

The iPhone is firstly and was always meant to be a portable music player, it has phone and some smartphone capability's as a bonus but it's an iPod ... people tend to forget that. It's a music player with phone features not the other way around, and this is exactly why I got myself one, for those wanting a super-phone you may be disappointed.

Who cares? It's an iPhone! The coolest thing since sliced bread.

If coolest = Most over hyped, then yes

And in many ways every Nokia is 5 to 10 years behind the iPhone. You know what buy it don't buy it no-one gives a crap. There is no such thing as the perfect phone. There are phones that suit certain ways of interfacing with a computer and others that suit different ways of interfacing.

Just because the iPhone doesn't give you what you want doesn't make it a bad phone. It just makes it the wrong phone for you.

Grow up and get a life.

O do tell...

Also that last part,"get a life" , are you 5 years old? What the hell so he does not agree with you thus he is stupid.....

Did you? :confused:It really doesnt seem like condemnation to me and while I dont even particularly want an iPhone that article really isnt off-putting.

To be realistic I think one could probably generate a big list of negative things about almost any cellphone so I guess that means they're all rather sucky. ;)

Pfft can the applefanboi nr1 please be quiet :p

ROFL :D @ the first three points....

Sounds like a grade three telling his friend why his dad's car is better than his friend's dad's car ....... Because its shiney , because my mom says so and because it is my dad's car! :D:D

Nha I will by it as soon as the 46th generation comes out and it is heavier on the features and lighter on the price, not like now where it is vice-versa.

As an iPhone user since March of this year I think this warrants a response.

Firstly..if you have not worked with one, you would not know what it is like (almost like having children!).

[*]No copy/paste functionality
You do not need this. I also made a whole song and dance about this but the intuitive features of the iPhone makes copy-and-paste obsolete

[*]No landscape QWERTY keyboard except in the web browser
and? How thick are your fingers?

[*]No vibration feedback when typing (real buttons have that built in)
so what? and the keyboard does not have "real buttons" duh?!

[*]Still no option for turning Predictive typing OFF
BS, you can! Use Kb2

[*]No multi tasking (background notification service is in the works to remedy that one)
not sure what you want to do here or what you mean by your definition of "multi-tasking"..it can surely do whatever whenever.

[*]Numerous messaging features lacking: no MMS (WTF?), no SMS forwarding (might be solved by a system-wide copy/paste functionality), no deleting individual messages (OMG WTF?!)
BS, once again you can do all of the above except the copy and paste and you do not need this.
MMS - SwirlyMMS (brilliant little program)
SMS forwarding via WeTool
Deleting individual messages is part of the SMS feature! and you can do this with weTool

[*]Numerous email features lacking: no bulk "mark as read", no search, no sorting of any kind, no ZIP or RAR support in mail, can't send full resolution camera images via mail (they get resized to 800x600) (L4m3!)
You thrive on BS (you should do better home work next time you know). There are a number of little programs which allows you to do all of the above! SendFile, iComic, SendPics, SendSong,

[*]No call duration recorded in the Calls Log
WeTool can do this

[*]Cannot snooze appointments and cannot set repetitive alerts for reminders
CRAP man! I do this all the time...what is the little "+" for in the top right corner?

[*]No search in the iPod music library (usefull actually cause iPod sucks)
You are very ignorant...I'm not even commenting on this one!

[*]No video recording (OMG WTF BBQ?!?)
Use VideoRecorder for this!!

[*]No voice dialing ('00 model nokia 3310 had that)
Use VoiceDial for this!

[*]No Bluetooth file transfer or stereo Bluetooth music streaming (w34k!)
Hmmm I must agree the Bluetooth sucks!

[*]No GPS navigation software (c'mon, I have Nokia Maps and Garmin!)
Dude do you want a phone or a GPS???!!! Google maps and the new assisted GPS (on the 3G iPhone) works FINE!! It won't talk to you (yet) But someone will sort this out soon.

[*]Long and tedious back up upon sync with iTunes (presumably fixed with the latest 2.01 firmware)
Nope...goes quite quickly

[*]No syncing of Notes and TO-DOs
No Notes Sync...which sucks BUT To-Do sync with iCal (IF you are on a Mac as in Apple Mac)

The Edge on the first gen iPhone works fine for well...Edge. BUT the new 3G obviously kicks butt in this department. It wireless capability is par none I have ever come accross...it switches to the best wireless connection available to you seamlessly.

But once again....if you have never worked with one then your opinion is based on what OTHER people write on the Net.

My prediction, everyone will sooner or later want/have one. My experience is based on the first generation iPhone. The 3G is even better. So soon you all will have to conform...it would be the logical thing to do!

Even most kindergardenPhones can overcome these simple stumble blocks that the fruit company could not even fix in their second version of this fashion-disaster-cum-pseudo-phone

  • No copy/paste functionality
  • No landscape QWERTY keyboard except in the web browser

Seriously, the iPhone only has a nice screen and then it still does not bring a keypad to the party. So it is useless - really - kindergardenPhones can beat it. The N82 is perhaps 5 maybe 10 years ahead of it.

Yes, it has no keypad...you are right. did you think why it doesn't have one? Because the phone is on big-ass mofo touch-screen!

I notice a lot of "NEW" Phones, even this "Nokia" you keep talking about also lack features that have been in previous models.

Features:
Changable Covers
Snake game
A Torch
A Compass
A Radio
Ringtone Composer
Infra Red
Funny Photo Editing: adding a little hat/beard on your face,etc..

Point: There is no phone in existance that has every conceivable feature ever created for any phone.

if there was, then nobody would buy cellphones anymore because everybody would own a perfect phone.

Every company has a few budgets when designing a phone (Time budget, battery budget, size budget, total cost budget, etc..) and it would be impossible to fit everything in, whithin ALL those budgets.

All in all I think apple chose great concepts to add, and a few things they couldn't implement don't make it a bad phone. unless you really DO need "vibration feedback when typing".

My newer phone doesn't have voice dialing even though the 3310 had it. who cares, it has many other features the stupid 3310 don't.

Lol :D

Yeah I really don't think its a bad phone just really not a good enough buy for me for that price. But if apple do continue to better the product then I might go for the 3de in the series :)

Just a quick response to add insult to injury:

Changable Covers - Iphone can change cover/add covers if you like)

Snake game - just download this one

A Torch - I have a little app called Flashlight which does this trick...works great when baby wakes me at night!

A Compass - there is a little app for this as well...after calibration the accelerometer determines which way you are facing and voila...Compass on your iPhone

A Radio - there are a number of webradio apps available for the iphone

Ringtone Composer - this you can do with Ringtones

Infra Red - Does any EVER use Ir anymore??? Wireless dudes, wireless!!

Funny Photo Editing: adding a little hat/beard on your face,etc.. - OK this you won't believe but there ia a new app out called Your2Face that can actaully do this...(I swear Google it!)

Come on...throw more "the iPhone can't do this" at me...I'm beginning to like this game!!! ;-)

The iPhone can’t make coffee - Or is there an app for this to?

This argument is ridiculous... the iPhone is meant to be the best portable music player not the greatest phone.

My last comment still stands...in time to come everyone will have one.

I'm relaxed, I even have an app on my iPhone which relaxes me! Its called iRelax.
