I rarely sit in the couch & switch TV on unless hired a movie with a girly in company... I unintentionally installed a DSTV because i saw the guys at my neighbor installing it, and went to ask them to pull a TV antenna to my room. While they were busy this other guy convinced me for about 30min to take their DSTV offer and told me its only R700 to install everything. I already had a Dish so thought, arh! why not, might just buy the decoder and activate later... But yeah, he was smart enough to convince me to also active it immediately so that they can test if it works, otherwise might need to do it by myself at the later stage.. .So i took the R200 package which doesn't show all channels. But thought maybe i should upgrade to the full package, is it that different and worth a while to pay an extra R250? I always end up changing the channels to find something for my liking, and sometimes end up going back to my XBOX...

Computer + Internet > TV

Personally, I would rather spend the money on improving my internet connection. TV in general isn't really that great.

DSTV or any TV is just not worth it. Rather download and view what you want when you want!.

If you have a PVR, no internet bandwidth cap or a friend who downloads everything and like watching different things then yeah, its worth it

Live sport & the documentaries are what keeps me as a DSTV subscriber. :)

Rippoff

I also keep my dstv for sport but after the trinations it's bye bye time...
R450 is just too much!!! If i only watch the sport on saturdays it works out to more than R100 a pop.

Another case of Monopoly in SA!

If you have a narrow focus in terms of interests, then yeah it does not make sense.

But for me, I could not live without DSTV. Formula 1, Cricket, Soccer, Rugby and when I'm really bored, Golf.

And the movies are cool, Music channels are cool, and you can't go wrong with Series channel, Discovery, History channels.

If they could give me a package with only MNET i would take that in a beat.

Or if they think thats 2 much of a spoil. Only Series channel and Super Sport1
Only 2 channels thank you! All i f#$% need why do you want R450??? Are you insane?

Get DSTV for a year or so. Then you have seen everything on it and can safely drop it.

I only have MNET (Analog), I mostly watch the series and maybe 1 or two movies on mnet a month. I have a tivo so I record all my series and I can watch it when I want. I don't think paying an extra R200 will be worth it for me cos I don't watch sports and barely have time to watch all the series I record.

Yes.
If you watch a lot of TV then it's worth it. I bitch a lot as well when the yearly price increase comes but I've been on holiday for 2 weeks where there was no DStv (only SA[k@k]C) and it rained for 10 of those 14 days...it was hell!

Well I switch mine on every 6-7 months for two months and then I am cured again for the next 6-7 months. There are only about 4 new episodes on discovery and NG every 6-7 months so dont think you going to see a whole new story.... You will still see repeats from 2 years ago.

I think dstv is worth it. Although pricey at R513 for DSTV premium with a PVR, I get to watch all the shows I want.

I'm moving to Dubai in a few months and I'm really going to miss DSTV.

As a result of the DSTV monopoly, they show all the best shows. Shows which normally would be on competing channels/packages.

Also, when it comes to sport, we're absolutely spoilt for choice.

I don't buy into the whole downloading thing. With the amount of TV I watch, how could I download even a quarter of what I watch. Plus it would be pirated, so basically the R500 per month goes to Telkom in Bandwidth as opposed to DSTV.

If it were a close decision, the clinching factor would certainly be the PVR - It's brilliant.
