Is evetech good or shady?

Look, when it comes to debates like this with a supplier, I always state I bought the product from them, not the manufacturer. End of. They generally buckle if they want to keep my business.

And you seem to be missing the point completely. Wootware - 5 year product warranty. Evetech - one year.

Now riddle me this - in the first year, Evetech most likely return product to manufacturer to get a replacement, not so? Therefore, what happens in years 2-5? You think they don't return it and get a replacement? What happens to this item then? Makes you wonder how they sell things so cheaply sometimes...

You missed that I have already posted Evetech's terms,

https://www.evetech.co.za/Company/Terms-and-Conditions.aspx

Where goods are provided with a warranty period greater than 12 months, the first 12 months of the warranty covers all parts and labour costs, where as any subsequent period of the warranty cover only relates to labour costs only. e.g. If a product is sold with a 3 year warranty, the first 12 months covers parts and labour, and the next 24 months covers labour costs only.

read.

I have. What exactly is your point?

They give you an inhouse 1-year warranty which they call a Return to Base 1 Year warranty. These 12 months covers all parts and labour costs, but where the warranty is greater than 12 months, they will only cover the labour costs. This simply means that all parts will be covered by the manufacturer for the remainder of the warranty or in terms of a limited warranty.

When a supplier states they will honour the manufactures warranty is the same as the above. It simply means they will fulfil the agreement on your behalf as the liaison.

No, I don't think so. They will not cover parts after year one, nor claim a replacement from the manufacture on your behalf.

How do you allude to that?

They explicitly state to provide a 1-year direct warranty (which is a 6-months extended warranty on the implied warranty in accordance with the CPA).

They explicitly state to provide labour on any warranty greater than 12 months.

They explicitly state that the shipping charges are on the buyer.

By reading the warranty as stated in their terms and conditions? It's in plain English - not sure what you not getting?

Let's go through it again. Where a manufacturer might offer a 3 year (or even 5 year warranty) on the product itself, Evetech only gives you one year on the hardware. Thereafter, they will only cover the (labour) costs of actually having to swap out the item, assuming you buy another one from them.

Thus you as a customer miss out on two years warranty.

This is excluding concept of repairing, which is rather unlikely with PC components.

Edit: and if you don't believe me, just contact them.

My PSU stopped working after 14 months in and I was told that I need to send my PSU to America to have it repaired at my cost as they can't replace it here after the 1 year warranty lapses. IT was a Corsiar 860W PSU. Worked out that it was better just to buy a new one than to send it off to be looked at in America.

That's not the first time I've heard that happen. There have been instances where woot & rebel also helped people out that evetech washed their hands of.

Perfect except I was told I had to send it to America myself they don't deal with that. So that makes your last sentence redundant as they don't even do that.

They explicitly state on each product page the length of the warranty, and where it isn't stated the normal 1-year direct warranty will apply but do have clauses in their warranty policy which may void the normal warranty. I don't believe you know what labour includes.

So tell me, how does purchase through Evetech void your manufacturer's warranty unless it is a grey product?

You had to pay the shipping costs, right?
Not through them on my own yes because they weren't willing to help me because I fell out of their 1 year warranty as you have clearly stated.
It simply means they will fulfil the agreement on your behalf as the liaison. They never did this.

You are still avoiding the point.

And please, please tell me what labour includes then.

And I cant "tell you" you because I don't know. But that's what they do. And if it's a grey product, how do they offer the one year warranty - pick up the entire costs of replacing the unit themselves? Ja, sure....

They don't cover the shipping costs. I guess this product didn't come with a local warranty, otherwise, it would have been sent directly to the local authorised distributor where it was acquired.

Evetech told you to make a warranty claim through Corsair. Corsair would have then made the recommendation to,

1) Return the product to the place of purchase (if an authorised reseller), or
2) to return the product to a place directed by them.

it may very well be that Corsair told Evetech the very same thing they told you.

Nope, you definitely not defending Evetech...:whistling:

What point am I avoiding?

1-year direct warranty:

Labour and parts provided by Evetech, and by this, they are actually covering the costs thereof.

Manufacturers warranty:

Labour is provided by Evetech, the costs thereof, and the parts are provided by the manufacturer and these parts by the manufacturer are subject to the manufacturer's terms and conditions.

In your narrow definition of words, "labour", means swopping parts out.

Thereafter, they will only cover the (labour) costs of actually having to swap out the item, assuming you buy another one from them.

This person gave a good and proper explanation:

A warranty has two separate sections: A parts warranty, where the manufacturer will provide a part to replace any defective part in the product, and a labor warranty where the manufacturer will pay a technician to install the part.

If a laptop has a one-year parts and a 90-day labor warranty it means that the manufacturer will pay all repair costs for the first 90 days that you own the computer, but if something fails between day 91 and day 365 then the manufacturer will provide a replacement part at no charge, but you will have to pay a technician to install it.

This is a very common practice in the electronics business.

I deal a lot more with manufacturers, vendors and suppliers than you may think. I know the back and forth. ASUS and Corsair are the worst to deal with.

Hey, you even know about the communications between Corsair and Evetech. I am in awe.

Thanks for summing it up :)

Dude, read your own link. It says "manufacturers warranty". Read Evetechs very own site - it states "local warranty"

Anyway, we can go round and round like this until one of our devices burns out and we need to replace it.

Why don't you just contact Evetech, seeing as you apparently deal with a lot of "manufacturers, vendors and suppliers"?

Impress me.

Local warranty may also mean that the product is purchased regionally (in this case, local). Meaning that the seller will engage with the local distribution channel when a return is submitted. You know, RMA.
