Emotionally it's far far easier to stay than to go.
True, but if you emmigrate, that will not change their fate. Unless you take them with you.Emotionally it would be easier to stay, but what's going to happen with those emotions when a close family member (mother, wife or sister) gets raped and murdered - the odds of this happening to someone close are getting higher each day.
Don't rely on pension for retirement. Buy property or invest your money in commercial investments. If things go pear shaped, you move your money to overseas investments accounts. And then you leave as well and retire on that. Problem solved.Financially it would also be easier to stay, but what if things go pear shaped as it's doing at an ever increasing pace these days, and your pension and other investments become worthless like what happened in Zim 1.0, where pensioners resorted to eating canned pet food as a treat.
I promise you your chances of a bullet in your head, is very small if you live in Stellenbosch or some Garden Route towns like Knysna for example.A bullet in the head is one of the worst 'brain drains' you can get.

Besides, changes of murder / rape happening to someone, depends highly where they live in SA.

How much will your property in SA be worth if everything goes to hell? And your rand-denominated investments? Its not as simple as you make it sound.
Property is not always the best investment. Besides, there is a restriction on the amount of money you can move offshore, and when you sell that investment property just remember that nastly little tax surprise called "Capital Gains Tax" on top of all the other taxes you need to fork out![]()
Which is of course why you make every endeavour to take them with you.
Everyone said in 1994 that things will go to hell. Didn't happen as far as property was concerned. After the property boom of 2002-2004, you'd be rich now if you bought property before then. Property just doesn't crash overnight.
As far as investments goes, regardless of the value of the Rand (strong or weak), you will find investments that will do well, even if it has to be shares. Otherwise invest in foreign currency.
I'd just like to state that I find it incredibly amusing how Mr 'Good news' posts this crap and then disappears when the real facts come out and people shoot down his rubbish.

Oh I promise you I am everything but Mr Good News.
Just look at my signature for instance.

No it doesn't crash overnight but how much do you think the average farm in Zim is worth now?
