IS says that problems on their ADSL network have been resolved

Yup, can't even download a 3mb file. I've been having issues downloading (mostly <5mb) files for days.

Hope it gets sorted soon!

I'm with Axxess and I was having problems till yesterday morning, everything seems to be fine now.

Eish !! was on WA for the last two days, so didn't know about the packet lost thingy... But switched over to Afri now and it's flying... no problems !! So I guess the problems are fixed ?

I knew something was up with IS, even though we did not receive any notice from them about problems on their network.
Speeds on our IS accounts was up/down for the past 2 days with many connections dropping.

Testing the network now and all seems to be running well again.
Will need to test it during peak times.

Sure, my uncapped connection runs through IS from OpenWeb... to the tune of 600 to 900 Gigs a month. Why do you ask?

Just never really had a good experience with IS and I've worked with quite a lot of IS engineers in the past and they all had this holier then thou attitude. So I guess my personal opinion is not to like them. They also didn't do much for the SA internet apart from bringing the first uncapped accounts even thou they were extremely expensive.

Bleh.

I am still having problems. Could hardly access my email yesterday. And that is from jozi to cpt. Afrihost to WA

My local has been 100% fine. I've never had a problem with IS before, in fact their speeds are far better than my old Telkom account

You will notice the problem more if you do online gaming (http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...g-and-disconnects!-Packet-loss-on-IS-backbone). It is an intermittent problem so it might be ok for and hour and then you get very bad packet loss and lose your connection to the international game server, a few seconds later everything is fine again. I've haven't really played online in the last two days, so I cannot say if the problem has been resolved.

My internet browsing works fine at home, but when I try to play online, that is when I notice a problem. (Afrihost - 15 Gig cap)

I tried my Afrihost last night and everything ran smoothly. My cybersmart is still fubar though, but I don't think it's the same issue as what caused afrihost's problems. My cybersmart's been dodgy for a while now

Haven't been able stream this week. Yesterday couldn't even log into the account.

Exactly this. Those who say "its fine" arn't gaming or using an application layer protocol that requires all packets are delivered to function correctly (this is especially important in gaming as people 'hack' online games by not replying to certain requests, simulating pack-loss). Most application services are designed by nature to drop your connection if you exceed a certain threshold of packet-loss due to data-integrity being critical - so dropping ones connection and having to reauthenticate is not due to poor/non-resilient coding but rather by design.

To state what might me obvious to some, web surfing does not fall under the above mentioned category.

Should the packet-loss not be severe enough to cause a disconnect, this is experienced as application "LAG", where an application becomes unresponsive for a certain period of time (maybe 5-10 seconds) which is completely unacceptable under circumstances like gaming where that amount of time is the difference between your virtual life and death! :)

Yep, statement by IS/Afrihost that it's fixed is utter BS - still buggered.

IS problem is fixed !

The IS problem is fixed, just like the crime problem has been resolved, the potholes have been repaired, and world peace has been achieved.

They really are a bunch of lying plonkers. I've managed a whopping 76Mb of Data the ENTIRE WEEK. I got better results with dial up on BELTEL that I'm getting from these twerps.

I've had it with them - I cancelled today. They can take their crappy service, and their rubbish links, and stick em !

Their PR/BS machine seems to be in overdrive mode.

How can a company blatantly lie like this when everybody knows they are lying.
