Just got a call from sentech

Where to go now?

Howzit People.

Had 2 phone calls already? really P-eed me of. How can they think from alsmost capless service for +/- R650 a month to 5 gig cap for R1000 is reasonable?

Bunch of fu&*ers. I spend a R1500 on cable and a high gain about 3 months ago and now they wanna do this after I've stick with them thru all their sh*t.

Has anyone have some ideas which ISP to go for?

Regards

I got the phone call today.

Let's see... currently 20GB of bandwidth at a speed of 256kbps plus the modem costs me R849 per month.

On Flexi, the same will cost me... R12,099 per month! Yes! You read that correctly! (R2,099 for Flexi 10000 plus R10,000 for an additional 10GB)

And the speeds are STILL 256kbps for the Flexi.

Sounds tempting... where do I sign up for Flexi?

Right. I managed to pull down 45GB in one month before on the 256k package. Time to do it again for September, and then again for October. Then when it's "Flexi" time, I will laugh and tell them I'm upgrading... to dial-up. Because I need the bigger cap it offers... for less...

...and there you have, in a nutshell, why sentech is shutting down mywireless classic. Big up to UtterNutter and everyone else with a similar mindset.

Well, if you don't actually use YOUR bandwidth, you have nothing to complain about with regards to Flexi.

And just for the record: I downloaded 45GB unintentionally when I had someone staying with me whose PC was connected on my network as well. Just pointing out that it IS possible to download MORE than the large amount they already offer (well, not for long of course). If you would like to see my monthly logs, you'll see they I STAY within my 20GB every month. I DO NOT GO OVER MY LIMIT. So it's not people like me that are the cause for Sentech discontinuing the Classic package, because people like me are abiding my Sentech's recommendations. Try not to make stupid, riciculous statements like that.

...And that folks, in a nutshell, is the typical user that Sentech is trying to target with the Flexi package. Big up to Jhbgirl et al that have a similar mindset.

Why didnt they just hardcap it at say 20GB if they had a problem with it?

Contracts said nothing about howmuch you may download and they were happy as can be to give me a contract when I said I need a account that has to transfer around 30GB per month for business

Sayonara

I've had 3 calls today. One to offer me the laughable "migration". I then called then back and told them to give me notice of cancellation and explain quite clearly what I wanted. A while later someone called me to open a cancellation ticket! "No, I do not want to cancel and I have no intention of cancelling - in fact I am quite happy with what I pay for and what I get. It's you who want to cancel me and therefore I expect you to give me written notice and the reasons."

This threw them into a spin. I may get something by e-mail, but then again maybe not. Bunch of unprofessional palookas. In about three-and-a-half years, I have never, ever received anything in writing from them, not even a statement

ag shame, poor sentech... if they really had a problem with 'abuse' they would just kick the abusers off their network or implement a hard cap. that would solve their problem.

It's obvious that the real problem is that their infrastructure can't even handle people who stay within the soft cap limit and that's why they're offering flexi packages that are not even worth the wear and tear it causes on my keyboard for me to type this.

they sold us the classic packages on the assumption that most of us would never use up their cap, kinda like airlines overbooking flights and hoping some people won't show up. it's discusting...they can take their service and shove it.

I may get something by e-mail, but then again maybe not.

This passes as a business communication at Sentech:

"Please be advised that the Classic product range has been
discontinued and Sentech is giving all the Classic customer
to migrate to one of the Flexi packages. I will attach a
Flexi brochure so you can be able view your options.

As you were contacted after the 1st September 2006, should
you not wish to migrate to one of the Flexi packages, you
will need to contact the Sentech Call Centre on 0860 736
832 and an agent will log a Cancellation Service Call.

Kind Regards
Sentech Outbound Campaign"

Needless to say, I will log the call first thing Monday

Shocking

I have received a number of calls from Sentech. In each instant I have requested that they provide me in an email with a comparison cost based on our company's last six months usage of migrating to the Flexi package.

I am always (don't you hate checklists) referred to the Flexi promo page, or sent a link.

Thus far no one has actually sent me a coherent letter explaining the situation.

Furthermore, we are a Company Account (you would think that the Reg. number they repeatedly ask for would give that away.) Why do they repeatedly phone after hours?

What I want is relatively simple:

A letter explaining exactly what they are doing (in effect a notice of termination), and a full cost comparison on the two packages for six months.

Yes, I want them to tell me, in writing, how ludicrous their "upgrade" is in rands and cents.

As I said to the first chap that phoned me, you want to triple my cost and give me less.

His reply "um.... Yes, you could put it that way."

I find it interesting that they record all these calls, as they try to pressurise you into converting.

We've been surprizingly happy with the service, certain it's slower than ADSL, but it's certainly been cost effect for us as a company.

I doubt we would have objected to even a substantive increase (30%-40%) but the flexi packages are extortion.

Change seems enevitable, hmmmm iBurst's map says our exact location is the very best for their service....

Can I refuse to be migrated to the flexi package and still be left on classic ?

The classic packages are no more, if you are on contract on a classic package then all's cool until the end of the contract period. However if you r on a month 2 month you have no choice - you have to go on the flexi package or cancel

This is certainly their right to change their product offering for those people out of contract, however I expect due notice and an explanatory letter.

I don't expect people phoning me at all hours on my private phone and reading from a prepared statement and checklist.

And then not responding to my written queries.

Very unprofessional (though what else should I expect?)

I received my second call last week and yesterday the month to month contract. The one thing I like about this contract is that you as the consumer need to give them one month written consent to cancel but they can phone you on a Saturday morning while you busy waking up and tell you that if you not migrate before the end of the month your services will be cancelled. What happened to the decency of both parties having equality in a contract.

Anyway I told them that I've ordered my adsl line and the minute that is in I'm cancelling with them. I would have done it immediatly if Telkom was reliable and on time with the installation.

Although it's hilarious to watch everyone cancelling, it's kinda sad because this service, if run by competent people, would have been great.

Instead, we get this bunch of douchebags who can't even do market research properly. Wasn't it that Michelle Potgieter woman that was the marketing drone there?

I didn't get any call from Sentech.
But I called them to cancel the contract anyway. (my 24 months contract ends by 2006/09/30)
I spoke to one of the guys there and he saying they need 1 month notice, and the contract will be expired by end of October only.
He saying it will still be MyWireless classic during October as I did not migrate my package.

Then I asked him, "you should give me reduced subscription rate for October as my contract ends by 9/30".
He replies, it won't be possible because I did not renew my contract.

Well, I was tired so I decided to let them debit what I pay currently.

I switched over to iburst already, and gave sentech modem to my friend until next month.

Sentech is a government company all the intelligent people who poses more than one brain cell, work in the private sector, so that would make people who work at sentech what exactly? can anyone answer that, for 50 points and a noddy badge?
