Kindle Paperwhite

I think I've got one or two in stock locally, check the "buy now" page.

Worth it just for the USB Type-C connector.

I'm sort of leaning that way myself..

Granted I have a donkeys old Kindle, so the backlight is the "killer" feature I'm kind of after, but the USB-C part might be enough to make me take the leap towards the end of Jan when Januworry is mostly over.

If anyone has been inspired to upgrade their kindle after reading this thread and wants to sell their old one to me for cheap cheap then drop me a PM. I'm also able to swap a pair of half working bone conduction headphones if that tickles your fancy.
Hey, just want to thank @Luke7777 for sending me his old kindle after mine malfunctioned, really appreciate it!

Used the MyUS service - not sure what shipping + import etc is yet.

Kindle ($140) + cover ($15) came to $155/ZAR2517.06.

Will post when I have all the costs.

So, all in costs (rounded up) are:

Amazon: $155
MyUS shipping: $38
Insurance: $6
Import Duty and Tax: $40

Total: approx ZAR 3,620

Can’t you just use Amazon for shipping and taxes? It’ll work out a lot cheaper surely?

The issue is that Amazon doesn't ship the 2021 Paperwhite (Ad-version or Ad-free version) to South Africa.

The only one's they ship to SA are the previous generation (I want the 2021 version) and the Oasis (which is way too expensive)

So, unfortunately, if you want a 2021 Paperwhite you have to use a re-shipping service.

In addition, one cannot purchase an International version - basically an ad-free version - for delivery in the USA  Given that an International version is the same price as a USA version without ads WTF ?

BTW from a review of the International edition:
What improves from previous gen.
- screen from 6 to 6.8 inch
- port from micro USB to USB-C
- number of LEDs increased from 5 to 17 with warm light
- faster CPU, RAM from 512 MB to 1 GB, giving a faster page turn and dictionary look up
- storage remains the same 8 GB, or Signature edition increased to 32 GB
- page turn animation
- Wi-Fi both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz
- larger batttery capacity, last over a month after fully charged

For buyer from Thailand, do not buy the bundle with cover.
Normally, tax should be only 7% on kindle+shipping.
The deposit is too high, as Amazon reserves 20%, you should be refunded approx 13% back to your credit card.
If cover bundled, the tax will be 20%+7% of kindle+cover+shipping

Are you happy with the new Kindle, assuming that you have received the device ?
