Lars Reichelt resigns as Cell C CEO

I am personally sad to see Lars leave Cell C – not only because I think he did a lot of good at Cell C but also because he was one of the great personalities in the South African IT space. He shook things up, and that is not easy to find. I hope we see him emerge at another South African telecoms company.

This is really, really bad news. All I can hope for is whomever takes over has the same or similar vision as Lars. He certainly has done an excellent job in his short stay with Cell C.

Maybe the reason he is leaving so suddenly is that he may have made the company competitive but failed to make them profitable....

wont be surprised is someone like Richard Branson snaps him up to head virgin mobile

WTH? This guy also jumped from his previous position after just a year or two. What is he trying to prove?
I'm sure he has nothing to prove and has his reasons, speculation in here is amusing. Seems we're lacking entertainment. Besides, it seemed to be accepted and all that. Until we hear the reason, we have to speculate that he had his reasons, no more, no less IMO.

I hope the personal reason is nothing too serious

I sincerely wish Lars the best of luck for the future

Interesting times for Cell C, with the billions just invested in mobile infrastructure under the leadership of Lars. Where to now ?

uh, yeah.,.. actually it was more of a Rhetorical question.
But thanks for making the effort anyway even though you were not able to shed any more light on the situation.

Shocked, really shocked.....I also hope he was head-hunted by Telkom.

Or ICASA - wouldn't that be great?

But seriously, his influence will be missed. Having said that, most leaders will build a great team around them and CellC has some great people that I've had the privilege of meeting.

I'm sure that CellC will continue to shake up the mobile broadband sector (and hopefully continue to annoy the hell out of the other 3!).

Good luck and all the best, Lars. It's been a pleasure.

this is really bad for us ... this guy really shook things up and i doubt very much we would have all these great mobile data offerings if it weren't for cell c launching their 2 and 5gb specials. after that launch voda, mtn and even 8ta was forced to reply. i really do hope he heads up another SA company ... telkom ? we can only hope and pray

Thank you Lars for bringing competition back to the fore and giving us a reason to back the little guy..loved the the one-upmanship of sticking it to the big boys..wherever you go, go well.

Personal opinion, he made CellC into a competitor in the consumers eyes and grew the company dramatically. Now, with everything still looking good he will be leaving since the road will now become bumpy and I am sure he does not want to be there when things might come tumbling down. With 8ta also pushing for a market segment, and MTN and Vodacom (with deeper pockets) pushing against CellC in gaining enough market share to handle the debts he leaves while he can still hold his head high.

Maybe I am wrong, maybe I'm not... only time will tell :)

Not good, maybe he went to Eskom, I hear they pay great bonuses for crap performance, just think what he would get there, because he actually performs!
