I bet it's because of some personal reason - it is very sudden...
There is definitely a story behind the story. Who on the board created the pressure?

Lars is German aint he?
CEO's don't leave with 'immediate effect' for personal reasons.
I would suspect its more likely that the Board is very unhappy about something which happened, and the separation in this fashion was negotiated to avoid unnecessary public attention.
Does this mean Trevor Noah is also on the boat?
But, to be honest, I can only concur with rpm, Lars definitely brightened up the local telecoms landscape.QUOTE]
Brightened up the local telecoms??? He bent you over, like you did SA for years, and made you feel like it was your first time!
Lars - THANK YOU FOR ALL THAT YOU HAVE DONE!!!

While Lars did a great marketing job for Cell C and induced the other operators to reduce costs, did and is Cell C making money? I don't think Cell C's subscriber numbers have improved significantly during his tenure as CEO (no indictment on Lars). There is no doubt he made waves and Cell C became more noticeable in the public eye, but this is a tough market and if you don't make money for your shareholders (despite spending a lot on marketing), then they will tell you to go.
Anyway, be that as it may, all the best for the future Lars.
It’s all good he shaken up the broadband space and the consumers are happy? What about his employers who want bonuses equivalent to their counterparts in Vodacom? This man was fired for not raping the consumers or let me rather say he failed to deliver the fat bonuses for his masters sitting on the Cell C board. On the flip side, 8ta is being running without an MD since inception; let me not say much but no need to worry, more broadband pricing innovations and excitements still to come with the same man y'all love, on the cockpit.
Maybe the reason he is leaving so suddenly is that he may have made the company competitive but failed to make them profitable....
