LCD and Plasma Bargains and Discussions thread

The same as my previous thoughts. ;)

Rather get a PS51F5500 from alkit though, has warranty.

Otherwise R6 - 7k second hand due to enthusiasts' perceived value of plasma, or R5k realistically.

51" FHD plasmas have usually retailed around R9 - 11k.

The ones from alkit are out my budget. Yeah I have seen them selling at Game ect new for roughly 7-8k but not sure if it the same model.

I was thinking maybe R5-6k max for a second hand one.

I have not seen any of them secondhand to be honest. In one of the earlier posts someone had the F5500 which is basically the follow-up to the e550. Think tee price was R12k for it.

I have found a second hand one 51" but not sure what price to offer. If it is too much will rather go new. The other guy selling for R12k which is out my budget unfortunately.

That would be an HD Ready model.

Seems plasma is going to be out of your budget and it'll have to be LCD.

Yeah the HD ready models. If I can get a good price on a second hand one I might go that route. I've already stretched my budget so can't really go any further than R10k.

Does anyone know if it is possible to buy an "extended" warranty on a TV that is out of warranty? Or a cheap way to insure it sepereately? I don't currently have any household insurance (I know :wtf: ) but wondering if there is anyway to do this?

I'm glad you still want plasma. You've seen the light.

I am still in two minds to be honest. It also depends if it is possible to get an extended warranty or what insurance will cost me p/m incase something happens to the tv and I need to claim for a replacement.

Anyone got any feedback regarding this?

I'll sell you my 51" Samsung Plasma for R8000. PS51F5500. not a scratch on it. :D

Saw an 80" UHD LG display at Metro today with the cricket on display and I must say the picture was magnificent even when standing up close. Apparently it does its own upscaling and I must say it does it very well. It's on special for only R100k:D Bargain !

I'll take 2 at that price . I took advantage of the Dion Wired Samsung 50" UHD, very chuffed so far. Now to activate the Vox fat pipe.

Looks like the Supersport 1 (rugby) TV, which I thought/am sure was a touch screen plasma, has been changed for a smaller LCD.

Anyone else notice? Looks **** now.

What would be a fair price to sell my Samsung 46" ES7500 LED for? It's a 240Hz with "smart interaction" so you can use hand gestures or voice commands to control it.

I want to get a UHD TV.
