Most Game stores and House and Home have this TV. I suggest you could go and view one before buying from Groupon or a cheaper place. But because you have already read about the pixelation you will be concentrating on that and it will be difficult to look past that.

On my 60" plasma the pixelation on an SABC channel is crazy, but that's obviously its due to the poor quality feed (low res) and the size of the screen.. 1080p... is awesome..!!!

That would be due to the size and resolution, not due to pentile.

You should be good at around 3m, maybe 2.5m will even be fine.

Hmm sure he mentioned DSTV HD also had the issue, granted he probably looked up close, which isn't your natural viewing position.

I think I'll have a look at House and Home, can't justify buying something without seeing it for myself first. And I'm sure Groupon's return policy will be a nightmare to deal with.
 
Hi Guys

Plasma Noob here. Have been reading and watching this thread closely over the last few days as I do my research for what tv to upgrade to from my Sony Bravia KLV37S310A. Both my friends, one a commercials director and another a camera operator both have Plasmas and have advised me its the way to go. Great picture and good value. I was just about to make the jump and buy the new LG OLED or a Samsung 4K UHD all for over R25K but its probably best to leave that tech alone while the technology is still getting phased in. That OLED though!

So Im jumping in and have decided to get a plasma while they are still available. This will be my first plasma.Two options the Samsung PA60H5000 or the LG 60PB5600 both same price. I do get some direct sunlight on my tv between 10-11 am (as I write this I can see it directly on the right side of the tv) but watch most of my tv at night and afternoon sports. Still using my PS3 for gaming and Netflix.

You guys seem to know a lot about TVs so I was hoping you could give me your two cents worth on which is the better option. The LG has only 1 HDMI port and the Samsung has that terrible spider leg stand so its 1-1 at the moment.
 
If you can find an LG 60pb6900 go for that. I have one and enjoying it. Quality is great, reflection does suck though.
I do most of my viewing at night as well so it only irritates me the odd times I watch during the day.
The 6900 has more inputs as well as smart & 3d. I bought 3d glasses but hardly use it, I don't bother with smart much except for screen mirror. Having 1 hdmi port would irritate me though.

Not so sure about the h5000 from Samsung, but I believe you just missed a brilliant price from Groupon with their 20% off sale.

Thanks Droidx. I too would prefer the LG 60PB6900 but cant find anywhere. Ive realised this morning sitting in my really bright lounge with a double volume ceiling and arch window above french doors that I may regret going plasma because there is no way of blocking out light completely during the day.

I watch so much sports (watching F1 now) and spend most of my saturday and sunday afternoons watching the footie, rugby etc. Thinking LED is the better option now. So confused!
 
I have done windows opposite my tv, narrow and high but the length of the wall. It is also not covered and doesn't get direct sunlight. It is still irritating when watching during the day. With that much light it is probably a good idea to go with lcd.
That said I prefer watching the footy on the plasma as well as SD content. In your position I would go for lcd.
I saw the pb6900 on a few online stores, fotodiscountworld was the cheapest but I cannot vouch for them, also saw it at the LG store in canal walk but that was a while back.

If all you watch during the day is sports then plasma will be fine. But you have to be very sure that you won't watch movies and series or play any games - basically anything that might have dark scenes, else you'll end up hating your plasma.
