Yea look no doubt it's bigger but i am wondering if 28k was worth the extra 9"
O postman have u noticed how many companies are no longer making plasma? Seems the death of plasma could be imminent. I have heard samsung is also stopping it or considering it.

Dunno hey. That's for him to decide. My investment was a much smaller amount. Killa stop stressing about what's in and what's not. Tech changes all the time and plasma still gives great value for money. The picture quality is great on this big ass tv

My bad whoops, i got it wrong. It's 2012 and still plasma is going strong. A mate told me samsung had stopped making them but i just loaded my new 3g cap so i researched it now and cannot find the links. If the fkers had not stolen my lines i could have checked prior to posting. Soz
Zen if you read my posts i have said i would rather have plasma as a tv. The big argument is whether plasma is that much better than led (obviously backlit or edgelite postman). Plasma has far better picture for movies. I would rather have a huge plasma over led(backlit or edgelit postman i know) even if they cost the same for tv viewing.
I was just wondering if the jump from 46" to 55" was worth the money, no idea if it is and perhaps it is. The scary thing is how fast led is dropping in price. Plasma is dirt cheap as well. When will oled hit the market? Need to sell my kidney but i will only do it a few weeks before it comes

Simple answer is most certainly.
I had a Sinotec 46 (or is it 47"). Irrespective the size up to 55" really makes a big difference. The Samsung also is practically just a screen, very thin border (non screen area) and that also adds to the viewing experience.
I coulda bought a 60" Plasma for R20K but it looked to big in the store even for my space at home, and was an older model.
PQ on the one I bought is ridiculous on HD, very chuffed.
Had the tv linked up to the wireless network in no time and Allshare software makes life easy.
Some neat free apps too.
Havent tried the voice or motion stuff yet.
Im still getting used to the remotes, and find the cursor movement cumbersome, so reckon a small wirelss mouse and keyboard is warranted.
Sport: I got bored watching the Cheetahs throw away a victory so started to fiddle a bit. I would not recommend dynamic picture for this type of sport, a ghosting effect. On standard setting this is fine though and it all depends how far/close you are to the tv if you notice it or not.

You're getting ghosting while motion enhancement is disabled? Damn, cause motion leads to an artificial pic. Would be a bit peeved if I got ghosting on a R25k TV when my R5k plasma does a sweet job without the need for motion (and subsequent poor artificial PQ).
I see game has the Telefunken 55inch led for R9500 this weekend...anyone have any opinions on this one? I had a look at it in store and the quality looked pretty good to my untrained eye. Its a lot of screen for not that much money.

I grew up with a 56cm CRT Telefunken. My parents had it for over 15 years. No repairs were ever needed. They only replaced it about 8 years ago for a larger size TV and it was still working just fine.
Can't really comment on the LCD's they make now but in the old days, Telefunken was one of the better brands apparently.
That's the old, good Telefunken, back when they were a German company. Now it's some Turkish/Chinese thing just having the license to use the name.

Does it do PC Mode? If not I wouldn't touch it. And it probably doesn't.
as TJ99 said, that was the old Telefunken. We had two for probably over 20 years. The new ones are just rebranded chinese cheapies. They sold out a while back.
Hey guys. I need some advise plz. A friend of mine has an old tv and has asked me about a special running at game. It's the Samsung 40inch Led tv with PVR for R4999. I'm not able to get to game and see it till the weekend so I'm asking if you guys could give me any feedback on the tv and if this is a good deal. she watches a little bit of sport,like 2 rugby games a month and will probably only get HD channels at a later stage.

Only go for it if it's the D5000/D5500 model and she gets HD PVR and, importantly, she is happy with the SD quality especially sport. SD over HDMI (using the HD PVR) is improved by upscaling.
If using SD decoder then 43" plasma is a better option if she's used to SD quality on old CRT box TV's, because its resolution is 1024x768 (wide screen) and superior for SD and sport. If she sits more than 2.5m I would recommend the 43" plasma with the HD PVR because the difference in resolution probably won't be noticeable, and she would be getting bigger size and better picture quality (blacks, colours) especially under dimmer/night time viewing conditions. The LED backlit LCD would be a better option for closer viewing, use of 1920x1080//Full HD media, and more suitable for day time viewing in bright rooms. Also it'll save maybe R15 per month due to lower power use.
So I recommend she tests UA40D5000 LED-LCD and PS43D450 plasma or rather the new E range equivalents which should be priced similarly. While testing, she must take into consideration viewing distance and lighting conditions, i.e. plasma will appear dimmer in brightly lit stores which shouldn't be of concern if home viewing conditions are not bright.
Thanks dude. A fountain of knowledge as usual. She sits about 3mtr away. its a big room and there is lots of light. I think she will be happy with the quality of the SD for a short while. She is not huge into HD and big sound etc but wants to get a new tv and be able to record programs. Her CRT is getting old and slowly dying.
