But then again, I could be missing out on a GREAT DEAL!!! Is there a massive difference between a 50 and 55"?

Im thinking I should just go for this before it goes back to R16k!!!
 
Is the 50" UHD at Makro a Smart TV?
Does it have 3D?
Lastly, does it come with the 1TB of free VOX data?

I went from a 40" to a 55" and after a few days, was wondering why I didn't get a 60"...sigh. If you're watching a quality image, you can sit alot closer than you think \ get a much larger screen than you think.

I currently sit approximately 3 meters from the tv at the moment - it's 42" LG. So I definitely want to go bigger. Wanted a 55" but for the price of the 50" UHD it feels like a no brainier but don't want to be disappointed.
 
40 to 50 makes a difference I sit 3 meters away from mine and to pay 3k more for 5inchs is a waste

Yeah I agree bigger is better in this case :D but would I not be better off with a 50" UHD TV instead of a 55" HD TV? If I am only roughly 3 meters from the TV would it make a huge difference size wise?

at 3m you're already not getting maximum value of the 1080p image quality so getting a smaller 4k TV actually compounds the wastage in 2 ways (4x the image quality on a smaller screen while still sitting 3m away).

There is a minimum and maximum viewing reccomended distance per screen size. To lazy to Google, but link has been posted many times on this site

Yeah It's a tricky choice. At R10k for the UHD tv it's a bargain. How much 4K content is there at the moment..?

Hardly any. We do digital signage solutions on 55" to 85" screens and video walls. The lack of 4k or 2k content being produced is the bane of my life.

Improved from 2 years back though

Yeah that's my point. My Onkyo does "4k" up-scaling but honestly how decent can that be in any case. Will wait until the market and the content actually matures a bit before making any more purchases.
 
I just measured at the viewing distance is roughly 2.4 meters from TV to couch.

So are you saying I should rather go for a bigger TV at 1080p than go for the 50" UHD? Surely the size upgrade from 42-50" will be quite big? Won't going UHD future proof the TV for a few years? Obviously the bigger the better, but I don't want to sacrifice image quality.

As mentioned, TV will be used for Sport, Netflix, Hulu, Plex and XBOX One.

I wouldn't go bigger than 50" at that distance. You'd just lose picture quality.

You wont be disappointed with this TV, especially the gaming on Xbox one, it looks awesome!
