I don't think you have a choice then, only one way to go.

I would spend more on higher end FHD than lower end UHD, unless you're sitting close and can utilise it better in the future.

TBH 4K isn't really a big draw card for me, it's just the first decent 60" unit I've seen under R20k, and I'm not willing to spend more than that. So the 4K would be a "bonus". So requirements are decent PQ, non-reflective screen and <R20k.

I live far from CT :p.

If its the Samsung PA60H5000 I would definitely recommend it. After having it for a few weeks now I dont regret getting this for one second. Ben through some movies, few football matches and rugby with flying colours and no ghosting ;) like LED.

But dont pay R15k. I saw it at Hi Fi Corp for around R11k too if you cant get it on groupon for R9K.
 
After the latest update to my LG 50LB652T (04.65.05), the PLEX app is now in the LG App Store. Have not had a chance to test it yet...

Plex was in the LG app store before the update. Its not free though and requires plex pass.
 
The Sammy 55" (55H7000) is going for R14390 and the 60" (60H7000) is going for R18999.

Pricing seems good compared to what I have seen online. Anyone have either of these and is it a good deal?

Or should I rather go for the 4k LG for around that R19k - 20k range? Any recommendations there?
 
Sooooo my 3 year old Samsung Plasma 60" has suddenly decided to stop working :/ Where would be the best place to have it checked out...? The official Samsung repair centre in constantia kloof...?

I took my one there. Very good service and took about 3 days to repair
 
May have posted this in the wrong location earlier, so here goes again...

Hi there

Help a brother out? I'm buying a new TV. Our current TV is a 3-year old 40" Samsung FHD LED (no bells or whistles) but has developed those annoying horizontal lines at the top of the screen and a random flickering (warrantly was only valid for 2 years, naturally).

I had though about getting similar sized 3D and/or Smart TV as a replacement, but after much research and mulling over I've decided to rather go for a bigger screen and get something like Apple TV or Chromecast to smarten it up later. But now our budget is limited. We can probably stretch to R7000 and after shopping around have narrowed it down to 3:

- LG 49" FHD (Model: 49LF540) at Makro on offer for R6999
- LG 47" FHD (Model: 47LB561) at Dion Wired for R6500 (spec looks a bit better than above except for slightly smaller screen)
- Samsung 48" FHD (Model: 48H5003) at Game on offer for R6990 (somewhat reluctant after previous Samsung experience)

Unfortunately, with these 3 all being at different stores I can't really go in and compare display models. So, I'm hoping somebody out there on the WWW has had some experience with any of these models that can throw a bit of light on this predicament.

There are some Sinotec and Hisense TVs that come in under budget as well, but I've been told that the quality of picture lessens as their screens get bigger. True or false?

Anyone played around with the settings on the Samsung 60" plasma? I find the standard and movie picture modes both look extremely dull. Dynamic looks very decent but was hoping someone had some decent settings for me?

It's a plasma. Plasma > CCFL-LCD / LED-LCD.
