Plasma is the biggest load of schyite to ever hit the market. It is power hungry, gets hot, on screen colours wash out....but the biggest bitch of it all, is that it causes untold RFI interference to any forms of receiving equipment. You could probably use a Plasma TV to jam someones car remote, that's how bad they are.

In a dark room, they are not even close. in a bright room, possibly sure.

Don't disagree at all. My cheapie plasma has worse black levels than modern high-end LED-LCD's. Just much better than any LCD in the same price class. In fact the MacBook Pro screen I'm typing this on is better in that department.

I just think there is a point where black level is good enough for your eyes to see it as "pure black" and better blacks, while important does not trump colour accuracy or handling fast movement (one area where even OLED is still catching up to Plasma - expected to be on par in a year or so)

Hi everyone, I am looking at an entry level TV. The Sansui 48" FHD at Incredible Connection @ R4999 http://www.incredible.co.za/sansui-48in-122cm-full-hd-tv has caught my attention! I have seen the TV in store and the quality looks great for the price. My worry is warranty - it says two years in the description. Has anyone here purchased this TV? Any feedback? I wish I could spend R7500 on an equivalent Hisense but my budget can't stretch that far :(

Have you looked at Esquire / Makro / Game etc? They normally have specials on Hisesne and Sinotec.

So just to update - I went ahead and bought the Sansui 48" from Incredible, and I only paid R2499 for it :D :D How did I do that? I had ±13000 eBucks lying around which I converted into an Incredible connection voucher at 40% off :D which gave me a R2250 voucher! Then, the last TV in stock at Cavendish was a 3 month old display model which I got 5% off! WHAT a deal!

I am really happy with the TV. Although basic in features and complete lack of smart features (has a USB port but only supports 720p video and MP3 playback), the TV looks expensive and LED panel quality is indistinguishable from a similar Hisense/LG/Samsung FHD TV 3X it's price. I have played everything from Blu-ray movies to games (GTA 5 / Witcher 3 on my HTPC) and haven't noticed any artefacts or motion lagginess. Input lag seems to be minimal as well.

Highly recommended if you are on a budget like me!
 
My Samsung ps51e550 has a "pink" line going from top to bottom on the left side of the screen, no physical damage at all, it just appeared. It is also 2 months out of warranty.

What are my options now, I'm sure a replacement screen would cost quite a bit but replacing it with something with the equivalent features would be a lot more. What do you guys recommend or have any of you fixed that issue somehow?

Kind of sucks that a Samsung TV would only last 4 years :(

Yeah mine also only lasted about 3-4 years (59').

Yup have the same TV (e51)with the same problem. Don't use it anymore and Samsung could not repair it as they don't stock the panels anymore. Of anyone does know who can repair it I would take it in.
 
Was having a discussion on another forum about this TV, apparently it cannot play Netflix (directly via it's own app). Would have to use a media player, PC via HDMI or PS or Xbox to stream.
Not sure how true it is though.
Makes one wonder the "smartness" of this TV?

I have the exact same model and the exact same problem, I also recently developed a 2nd line closer to the middle... I got extended warranty when I bought it so it's going back this weekend.
 
i thought that line was because of the ps3. only see it when im playing games. 42" plasma.

also been reading in another old thread that JVC branding is added to some cheap chinese no-name branded tv's Hence there are no reviews about it. Also I am skeptical cos of the extremely low price for a 55" smart TV.

Have a JVC plasma right now and its served me well for 5 years (i think) - colour is a little off on the one corner but I hardly notice. Time though to move on from 720p and 43".

Anyone ended up buying one or getting more info? R10k for a 65" UHD is not bad at all. Don't care about the weak "smart" functions as I have several consoles and a PI to handle that.
