LCD and Plasma Bargains and Discussions thread

Hifi n1 has insane specials. 2.5k for 40" sammy. 3k for a 42" fhd lg. No, can't remember models. Relocation sale in slaapstad.

WOW! I cant wait for those specials to come to PTA... will be camping outside the store :D overnight!

Anyone going to the East Coast Radio House and Garden Show today? If yes, please post any good deals you find. Cheers!

Just bought a Samsung LA40D503F7R from Game. I originally wanted the Samsung 32" 5000 series at R4300 but was seduced by the larger size of the 40". The price was R3999 with a R499 'cash back'. I'm feeling very pleased with myself at getting a fullHD Samsung 40" for R3500 but am at present working through the settings trying to get the best visual and audio settings. It's the first LCD TV I've owned so hoping the picture and sound quality will be good enough. This has all been precipitated by the coming Olympics and I will also have to get a full DST subscription (got EasyView atmo), and I think maybe a new PVR decoder..so lots of moola to shell out....

I'm trying to decide between the d503 and eh5300 at the moment.. don't know if the huge price difference is worth it just to have an LED

It s bit more than just LED e.g. 3 vs. 1 HDMI ports, media player that can play anything (inc .mkv), DLNA network streaming, SmartHub (e.g. watch YouTube on TV), 100 CMR motion processing.

Best to go compare them in stores to see if the difference is worth the extra cash.

Will the Eh5300 be able to use YouTube ?
Yes its one of the default SmartHub apps, there are many more streaming ones you can download from the store. Note a decent (4Mbps+) Internet connection is required.

Anyone know what language Samsung apps are developed in? I wanna write my own app/s

(for smart tv)

TVs only display the frequency of the input signal (pre signal processing), so whether you have TruMotion enabled or not, the TV will say 50Hz.

The only way to see it in action is watch scenes with lots of motion. Use your PVR's rewind function to watch a particular scene with TruMotion enabled & disabled, checking for differences in blur (smudged, trailing edges) & judder (stepping movement of the whole screen when horizontally panning).

Thanks, I now understand the 50Hz issue.

AudioVision selling the Panasonic plasma 42 inch FHD for R6999, down from R7999.
