but will it be as good as the 3D Samsung LED TVs?
Suppose it boils down to what's most important to you.

LG's passive system has a few advantages; cheap light, hassle free glasses, zero crosstalk and supposedly a brighter image. This must be traded off against half the resolution, only 540p per eye vs. full 1080p per eye on the active systems used by Samsung & others.

If the Massmart group would just do away with "special" prices and just consistently offer the best price, then perhaps it would make buying a tv a whole lot easier. Every week they rotate the specials and i think about it and by the time I have had a chance to consider the deal properly, it's too late to take advantage of the deal because the deal is off  Then every 3-5 weeks or so the prices get even cheaper for a particular model, and then that makes me more likely to wait even longer because i know it will keep getting cheaper. I think they r too clever for their own good :wtf:

/rant over

Does anyone know the model number for the 40" Samsung LCD (The one Game/Makro had on special for R4999 "I think"). It only have 1xHDMI afaik.

A R1000 difference, but its packed with good features!

Model: LA40D550
Resolution: 1920 x 1080
50Hz, USB 2.0
HDMI x 4
Allshare (wireless DLNA)

100%!

So if your budget is R6k then I would amend my previous advice:

Samsung LA46D550 and Samsung PS51D450 51" plasma (or D490 3D)

Samsung LA40D550 and Samsung PS43D450 51" plasma (or D490 3D)

Test in a professional AV shop's testing room with similar lighting/viewing distances that you have at home. Take your own media. Fiddle with settings (they're normall on 100% brightness/contrast/cell light when on display in shops ).

:)

Will do! Thanks!
Will stick to the LCD.
IMO Plasma screens tend to have some noise compared to LCD/LED. And certainly not going 3D - I think it's over-rated.

Noise as in photography noise, AKA grain? They do, but that's when you're up close within a metre. I'm sure your viewing distance exceeds that.

I speak under correction but i think we have seen the LA40D550 go as low as R5500 at Game on special.

Wasn't that an assumption? I dont recall anyone actually verifying that or buying one at that price?

An assumption?

It was advertised at that price for at least 2 weeks - a month. I even recommended to a IRL friend who bought one.

You must be kicking yourself right now, eh?

Anyone know what model LG is on special at game, with the bluray player?

EDIT: Looks like the 42LK430. No specs online?
