LCD and Plasma Bargains

... and most LGs have very poor black levels even compared with other LCD/LEDs, so wont look too impressive in a dark room (blacks more like dark grey). That said the LGs are cheap & feature full, at std list type price you should be able to find a 42LK530 (is 100Hz & has Ethernet) for a little more than the price of a LA40D550.

It has wifi support with the separately sold adaptor. Are you trying to tell me I am wrong even though I own a d550?

Quick (stupid) question: I'm currently looking at the Samsung 32" UA32D4003 FHD LEDTV,... what does that FHD mean?

or

You are misinterpreting the fact that it can receive a 1080p signal and downscale to 720p...

I'm going with the former?

More importantly, why this TV? For what will it be used?

UA32D4003 is not FHD (1920x1080), but rather 1366x768. Also the models ending in 03 are basic bare-bones and only include 1 HDMI port.

Much better off finding the more complete LA32D550 LCD.

So I assume 1m would be if you're sitting on a single-seater chair, up close to the TV. While 2m, I assume would be further back on a 2/3/etc. seater couch? Which is more ideal? Could I assume the latter?



720p, on entry plasma vs entry LCD, is far better on plasma. And even with 1080p, since plasma tech provides such better picture quality, I would still take 720p plasma over 1080p LCD if I am sitting ±2m back - due to how viewing distance affects the full FHD experience.

What's the sweet spot for size and value for money, above 40"? What's mkv playability gonna be like on a tv like that? Will it play MKV I mean?

edit: Do they ever have plasmas on special recently? Seems like they punt LCD for the most part these days. It's promote Logik and Hisense week at Game now :(

R4,999 Samsung PS43D450 plasma

R5,500 - R5,999 Samsung LA40D550 LCD

IIRC both have HD media players that play [most] .mkv's.

That said, it's always best to get a dedicated media player.

I'm looking at this Sony: either the 32" or 40"

Some1 with experience, what is the ethernet port used for? can a adsl modem be plugged in and youtube accessed from the tv?

what do you say in comparison with samsung d550?

If it's anything like the 46CX520, stay away. Some of those screens have some serious back-light problems where they appear very dim, even at full back-light and brightness levels. :(

Just stick to Samsung. :)
