LCD and Plasma Bargains

Why do you assume most have to/want to sit miles away from their screens? Do we all live in mansions?

No just a serious over simplification of the situation. It doesnt not take into account the abilities/perceptions of the individual, its just an average of the masses. Generally people who spend lots of money on hi-def screens are going to be more fussy/aware of picture definition than some arb person who couldn't care if they're watching on a CRT or HDTV.

The chart is actually based on what the perfect human eye can distinguish, so after perceptions and other subjective things come into it, the detail people see will actually be less than the chart demonstrates.

So on a 42" screen, if you sit 2,5m or further away from the screen you will not see the benefit of 1080p above 720p. This graph also assumes you have perfect eye sight.
I do, the degree to which is based on the type of image being shown. For instance with close up marco shots, small text, angular lines etc. its more apparent. Bottom line it just looks closer to being there viewing it with your own eyes.

Terrible assumption/generalisation. I live in a 100m2 town house and my viewing distance in lounge-cum-TV room-cum-dining room's viewing distance is 3m.

Anyway, gifs has also pointed out the flaw in your paper argument as I have many, many times before.

I'm not interested in rotating this circle any more.

And my piss poor eyesight certainly cannot compete with that of Superman's. ;)

And I feel it is bad advice advising people that FHD is such an important factor when their viewing distance is far outside those on the chart. This is what you do, Roman.

And this is where entry HDR plasma beats your entry FHD LCD. It's a fact.

Really? When it is shown that a few entry level FHD LCD's beat your entry level HDR Plasma in both colour gamut and black levels you say it's lies and biased towards plasmas? So who can a person believe, people who have tested the screens with actual equipment that picks these issues up, or a dude who owns one of these entry level plasmas and has convinced himself it's superior in everyway? Yes motion it is better we all know that, but it gets beaten in black levels and colour gamut, leaving the superior picture quality you spout on about not valid any longer.
Yes you might not be able to see the difference between 720p and 1080p (due to the fact your TV is only 1024x768, and your LCD is only 32") but a few people can and let them choose what they want, if they want plasma for the better motion then let them choose it, if they want LCD for higher definition due to them wanting to actually use it then let them. Please for the love of all that is flat, let a person be able to actually choose and like their own purchases, you like plasma other people like LCD, you are like a zealot but don't allow another person the same privilege?

Thats fine you stick to your low standards, you're only holding yourself back from the maximum potential of whats avalaible.

He still believes his Samsung has better black levels and colour gamuts to the entry level LCD's, yes perhaps to a Sinotec, Logik or AIM, but other FHD Samsungs beat his every time, but we can't mention that site cause it's biased... Kettle calling black type thing you know.

What low standards?

I own both tech. Both Series 5 FHD LCD and Series 4 HDR plasma.

The fact that I own Series 5 FHD LCD, proves that I have high standards. Now I just need a PS3 Blu-ray player, and I would be able to start matching your highest standards. To complete this match, I will need laser eye surgery.

Which Samsung?

You do realise I have two? Or have you still not learnt to read properly.

This is laughable. Learn to paragraph, and I might consider entertaining your waffle.

In fact no, I will not entertain it. I have entertained it several times and you still get it completely wrong.

The only zealot here is you. And you're wearing tinted glasses and ear muffs.

Good day and good bye.

Really I am the zealot, I actually entertain the idea of other display technologies and actually read what an OP needs and requires, you don't it's plasma all the way. Also I am not going to mention your 32" LCD as you don't throw yourself on a sword over it, you know I am referring to your PS42C450 you so happily punted left and right as being the be all and end all, even when it was shown to have inferior black levels to a few LCD's you called bias (sign of zealot).

FHD doesnt matter.

Exactly, so what do you have actually plugged into the LCD to evaluate/appreciate a 1080i/1080p signal displayed natively (with 1:1 pixel mapping) on a regular basis?

Merely putting into words what the expert chart picture proves. Deal with it.

For starters, a computer.

Best media players around. ;)

Neither of these provide an indication of the quality of content/signal sent to the TV.

Once you're using a HDPVR (on premium pkg) & Bluray player on a regular basis, you'll start seeing what I mean.

Please do.

Because, resolution and 1m viewing aside, he agrees with me and others that entry plasma > entry LCD. ;) So does TYR... Maybe search for him too.

And so do I on most counts, a lot of entry level plasma's are better then some entry level LCD's, what I'm trying to get across is yours and the updated model aren't and it's been shown against it's Samsung brethren, but you dismiss it as apparently it's bias.

Check.

Don't own one but have done this plenty of times on friends' FHD TVs.

I take it you think the chart doesn't see what you mean ?

televisioninfo.com is biased.

So let's make this crystal clear:

You're saying LA40D550 has better black levels than PS43D450?

LOL.

Firstly it's a 46, secondly according to a website where valid testing has been done, yes. They did mention the bad motion handling of the D550 series in general and I am aware of it, I don't go around calling the site bias though due to them mentioning one bad thing. They also only seem to be bias against your plasma and the PN43 which is weird, the other plasmas they rate quite well, you know the higher up ones.

Oh noes it's bias

Weird I just checked three plasma's where they mention the deep blacks and surprisingly how good they were... Bias oh my it's all bias they only praise LCD's lordy lord it's bias...

All irrelevant to the discussion, which started with LA40D550 vs PS43D450. Please, for goodness sakes, learn to read.

It is your own zealousness and bias that is turning this into a plasma vs LCD war. We do not want that.

The discussion is about resolution, or at least was before you entered. You clearly did not read prior discussion.

Please read properly! Please read properly! Please read properly!
