Agreed... I've had them beat specials on MANY occasions... Just makes those specials all the more special ;)

Sorry didn't put it clearly. They don't beat products which are on special at other retailers. At least that's what they told me

The 42C430 was a demo at Cats and the 42D450 is at Game. They don't have the 42C430 anymore though. Don't think i would've bought a demo anyway. Would you guys buy a demo tv?

'SAMSUNG 43INCH DEFINITION READYPDP TV PS43D450' for R4999 at Game, does this thing have a built in media player? I see the res is 1024 x 768.

Depends what you need the TV for.

At ±40", the 3" difference is quite significant.

True. I can see the LA40D550 has more features and is a 5 series, and at 1080p res it is more future proof. I'm assuming the media player on the LA40D550 is better than the PS43D450 (yes, i am trying to avoid having to buy a media player separately - for now at least).

I suppose what the PS43D450 has going for it is the extra 3" and the fact that it's plasma, but it's an older 4 series Samsung.

I guess i would watch movies on it, documentaries and some series. Sport would more likely be basketball, but I don't watch much sport generally speaking.

It is more future proof if you're going to be needing 1080p. 720p will still be around for a long time.

Can't comment on the media player, would think it would be able to play movies? Not sure what you mean by older? Both the 4 Series plasma and 5 Series LCD have been around for quite a while, the D's are the latest revisions.

Sounds like you watch quite a bit of SD stuff, which suits the plasma. Take a flash drive with some content to the shop (preferably a dim one), play with the settings. Best way to test.

OK, I'm not sure what i mean either :p Not up to speed on what differnt series TVs are available (but just took a look at Sammy site so now I have an idea) Just thought the 5 series is newer than the 4 series but as u say they both old(er).

Well, if i get a big screen TV then i will certainly want to watch more HD stuff, and if i get a Full HD tv, then i will seek to gather 1080p content to watch in all its heavenly glory on said TV :D

Ok, the need for 1080p sways in favour of the LA40D550. However you should still take a 1080p rip and compare on both sets from your viewing distance (and with as accurate lighting as possible) and decide from there. ;)
 
All depends on what you are watching now and what you are going to watch in the future. If you plan on making use of the FHD go for the LN, if not PS is a good option too. 3" does make a nice difference.

With regards to naming, series 4,5 etc indicates the range. Series 4 is low-end, Series 9 is high end. D indicates the year model, in this case 2011. C are 2010 TVs.

Series 4 plasma = low end plsma
Series 5 LCD = low end FHD LCD

Both are low end.

False. You can get Series 3 and Series 4 LCDs. These are low-end. Series 5 is considered mid range and is very similar to Series 6 except that it lacks 100Hz.

However, low-end plasma is definately better than low-end LCD

Series 3: low-end
Series 4: low-end
Series 5: mid-range
Series 6: mid-range
Series 7: high-end
Series 8: high-end
Series 9: high-end

Please, you're pulling those from where the sun don't shine. Did you read where I mentioned FHD? Series 5 LCD is entry level pal. Stop confusing the OP. Plasma and LCD is not comparable by Series.

I think you're the one trying to confuse the OP the whole time. I am pulling these from tech-sites, Samsung press releases, basically everywhere. Do some searches. In any case it doesn't matter.

I also just pointed to the fact. I made no comparism between the two. Which one is better will depend on what he'll be using it for
