I'm just wondering if you can rent a data only line or if you're obliged to rent a voice and data line at added cost.
I saw an article, http://mygaming.co.za/news/features/37072-all-in-one-uncapped-adsl-pricing-comparison.html and was wondering for example if the offering from WebAfrica at 1Mbps will only cost me 439 or if I'll be obliged to fork out another couple hundred for the voice line as well.

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

You are required to pay Telkom for a voice line if you want ADSL...

Voice rental is compulsary, no way around it currently (unless you get a neighbor to use that voice portion ;-) and pay for it) then you going to have to fork out for it.

Sorry

Isn't this illegal - as far as I know when it comes to competition law (limited) - you cannot sell a product on the back of another product if tts not neccesary for its operation. Could be wrong.

According to the law corruption is also illegal LOL

I stand under correction but their argument is that the line rental is for the actual line (or exchange connection) whereas the ADSL rental is for the connection to the ADSL network (DSLAM). So yes, you could pay the ADSL rental but there wouldn't be any connection to the exchange to get onto the network :D
