Line Syncing, ISP connecting, but no internet?

I am having a problem with no internet access on my line.

My ADSL is synced, and my ISP account connects (I have tried Vox, Web Africa and Afrihost), however I cannot access the internet.

I have tried the following things:

Bypassing the POTS filter
Using a DNS
Getting telkom to reset my port (a few times)
Defaulting my router

I have also tried the telkom guest account, which works and allows me to access www.telkom.co.za.

I have phoned Telkom who cannot pick up a problem as it shows my line is connecting. My ISP can also see that I am connecting, and cannot see any problems.

I am not sure who else to contact, or what else to try?

The only option I have not tried is a different router (I dont have one).

Any advice?

Call 10210 and ask them whether you need to verify your line.

Sounds as if that is where the problem lies. They may even need to change you to a VDSL profile and then back to ADSL 2+.


When I upgraded to 20Mbit I had to re-verify my ADSL line - when I called Telkom they only saw that I had to re-verify once they changed me from ADSL 2+ to VDSL.

EDIT: If you would like to rule out the router, try dial up the account via Windows and see whether it works. If it does then it is possibly your account, if it does not (as I suspect) then your line more than likely needs to be verified.

Same thing happened to me when upgrading to VDSL. Was on the ADSL2+ profile at 15Mbit for a few days, then internet died as you described. Was down for about 36hrs before Telkom finally 'completed' the upgrade process. In my case, calling 10210 proved fruitless - all they could say was 'upgrade in process - you must wait'.

You genius! Got them to change me to VDSL and then back to ADSL and re verify my line. All working again.
