Phoned Sinoprima , seems all the new models have cheap Chinese LCD panels in them. They have had many complaints about this , so I'm taking it back on Sat for a full refund @ Game.
It's really sad because the people that bought the earlier models got good value for money and now because of greed , consumers have to suffer.
So , I'm back on the hunt again , problem is now I am used to the 47 so shopping will be expensive on brand names.I'm also leaning towards plasma now , as this bleeding on LCD's has me worried as I'm quite pedantic and this would bother me on any LCD.
Any recommendations on plasma's would be helpful.
Any chance you remember the manufactured date on the screens you went through? Would be interesting to know when they started sticking crappy panels in the sets...
Sucks, I was seriously considering getting one of the 47s on the weekend, that is, until I read that post![]()
I'm not sure when they started with the Chinacrap , but I have lost total confidence
Out of interest I am going to see if I will be able to find one of the Sino's from the older batch, I have seen July and August 2008 stickers on the back of a number of the models in various stores. I'm guessing that all their actual boxed stock by this stage will be the newer ones though :/ What plasma are you going for?

what one has the better guarantee
Basically it's a chinese lucky packet when it comes to these panels now , I wouldn't touch them again , ever.
I'm looking at the Samsung 50" , either an earlier series 4 (PN50B430) they go for around R12.5k at the shops or the PN50B530/550 but that would be stretching my budget as best I could get was R15.5K for the 550. As far as I know , and correct me if I'm wrong here guys , they basically use the same panel the engine get's upgraded and more "features".
Oh and if you go plasma , make sure to use this break-in CD , keep the contrast and brightness below 50 for the first 100hrs just to be absolutely sure you have no burn in![]()
did you phone masons yet?
Yup , that's where I got the R15.5K quote from. Waiting for Hirschs to come back to me.
Heh , seems one of the senior managers @ Sinoslime wants to phone me and "discuss how we can resolve this". How do you resolve greed and bad workmanship/parts ???
probably, yeah - I say we BOYCOTT SINOTEC for the time being, so they can go back to what it was (hopefully)
well a manager phoning you and asking you that IS quite good imo - show me where an LG or SONY manager will phone you....they won't - look at their hellopeter pages - they don't even care!
also, sinotec might have recently got bad it seems, yes - but they were far from greedy imo - if people didn't like it they returned it no problem (like you did) and if it broke after 2 years they were fixed no problem
hear what the man has to say at least, imo - might make you a good offer for all the trouble you have experienced or something, you never know....
From what I've been able to surmise from their Chinese domestic homepage, XOCECO is primarily an OEM manufacturer of LCD panels and whatnot - their Prima in-house brand (Sinotec here) is a bit of a sideline enterprise.
As far as scaling goes: When I was researching my purchase I came across an obscure service manual somewhere from the Middle-East (if I recall - lost with my old PC, unfortunately) stating that the scaler is a Faroudja product - then regarded as the best in the industry. According to Wiki, Faroudja was bought out in 2007. Whether XOCECO still use similar scalers I don't know.
If we spoke to the same chap at Sinoprima, I got the impression he was a bit disgruntled with increased workload accompanying the addition of a couple of other brands within the local context. I don't know if he has first-hand knowledge of the parent company's inner workings...
Oh, and Google Translate makes an absolute mash of Simplified Chinese!![]()
