I want to buy new speakers for my setup!

Looking at a 2.1 Setup, but I need something with quite a bit of volume and clarity mainly for music use (pop, house, oldies).

Preferably optical in but not serious.

Nothing too hektic, as I'll be running it off a Mac Mini which is not an audiophile quality system.

I was going to get Altec Lansing Mx5010's at one stage, but it fell through at the time.

Recommend me?

This could be good:

LT-4Z4E Logitech® Speaker Systems - Z4 (Black) - 2.1 Speakers - 40 Watt RMS - For PC & Gaming Consoles - With Remote Control

R695 excluding VAT & reseller mark-up.

Thanks!

How would this compare to say the Z2300 Speakers? They are THX Certified, 200W RMS and not much more expensive?

I'm not 100% sure, but I'm pretty sure:

Quality-wise, I don't think an untrained ear could tell much difference, just because they're "THX certified".

Power-wise, they will be a lot more powerful. Bigger sub, more bass.

Would be about R500 more. What's your price on them? Go for them if you can afford it. They will seriously kick

Best price I can google is R1395.00 as apposed to R895 on the same site for the Z4's, so R500 more! I know someone who know's the SA Logitech importer...so I might try that to cut some more off the price...doubt there is much markup involved...but R100 is R100.

I really wish I could get Altech Lansing speakers, every where I read on the net that mentions the Z2300, mentions the Altech's are better for music.

Damn. Are there no suppliers of Altech in SA? Guess you wouldn't know, huh? :/

Esquire havent had Altecs fo a long time I have a set of Altec - Lansing headphones they damn good, ordered the speakers but they kept comming up with excuses. I got a set of Cambridge Soundworks PC Works that I don't know what to replace with. They are brilliant speakers had them for 7 years, and they still selling them. I got a set of Logitech X540's last month so I could test them and the bass is overbearing which ruins the system for me, the satelites are actually very good.

My Ultimate system would be a Veloyne DSP-12, Krell amp and either Sonus Faber grand piano's, KEF Q series, Vienna Acoustics or Thiel. The Sonus are my first choice, maybe one day .... I'm allowed to dream aren't I ?

I got Cambridge Soundworks PC Works too. They're great speakers, but after the length of time I've had them...they're on their way out and don't quite have enough ooomph any more.

I guess I'll just keep looking.

I've listened to the Harmon/Kardon Sound sticks, and although they look great...I've heard the speakers pop all the time.

Altec Lansing VS 4121 on special at Esquire right now so I presume they have stock. Maybe go check out one of their retail stores.

I have the MX5021 set and they truly an audio feast. Unfortunately they've been out of production for a very long time now. The next set I'd go for are the Z4's, which have separate mids on the satellites, which should improve those musical tones. The Z2300's are overpriced IMO, considering how the sub dominates the audio and the single speakers on the satellites.

Sounds good :)

i have the Z-2300's. get those if you like to listen to LOUD music. they ROCK!!!!! sorry about all the caps, but unfortunately it's the only way to shout at you over the psytrance pumping out of my Z-2300's at ridiculous volumes.
