I bought my E1820 5GB in December 2010 and never had trouble connecting at home or at work, and I have always been happy with the speed, but lately I am having more and more trouble with connection - let alone decent speed.

The connection is created but no data flowing. I have to connect and disconnect about 10 time before it maybe starts working!

These tests were done with a standard Cell C - Huawei E1820 modem
I can't believe the speeds I'm getting !!!

Location: Summerstrand PE
Date & Time: 19 September till present.
Device: Phone + speed sticks
Contract: Pre Paid Voice + Data

Cell signal is very unstable. Moves from -90dBm to -75dBm on MDMA. Keeps on moving between 3g and edge all the time with constant disconnects.
So unstable I can not get 2 speed tests off without showing a major fluctuation.

Lock your speedstick to 3G only....

Where are you located?
Where is the speedtest server located?
What modem do you have?

You speedtest results don't even show your IP address.

I am in Jhb.
I assume the MTN speedtest server is based in Jhb too.
I have a ZTE K4505-Z modem.

Hmmm, neither of those modems can do more than 21Mbps.
What do you get on Cell-C's speedtest?

The ZTE K4505-Z with the latest firmware is capable of 28Mbps !
I have posted many speed test results using the Cell C server - please look at the forum thread.

Interesting. What's the latest version (and how do you get it)?

Check the Vodacom forum. There's a lengthy thread there relating to the ZTE K4505-z modem.
I obtained the latest firmware from that thread.

Caution: Upgrading the firmware could result in a bricked/broken modem !

Have Cell-C enabled MIMO on their network?
I wonder why they didn't make any announcements about this, or even make the MIMO firmware available.

Evidence here seems to suggest they may have.

Have you tried the 11.865.07.00.618 MIMO firmware on your E1820 (link in thread linked above)? It would be interesting to see before and after speedtests at the same location.

I do not want to broadcast my ip address to the world!
As soon as you disconnect it will no longer be your IP address.
Why do you always distrust my speedtest results ?
  1. You get impossibly high speeds (53.40Mbps on a standard E1820?)
  2. You continue to use the MTN speed test after being asked to try the Cell-C speed test
  3. You won't update your location or provide information about the location of your speedtest
  4. You don't always provide information about which modem you are using
  5. You photoshop your screenshots before uploading (why not just post a link to a speedtest.net result?)
Do you think your speedtests contribute anything at all to this thread?

I have conducted many Cell C server based speedtests. Please go through this thread. You will see them.
I have stated that i am based in Jhb. I have also stated that i believe the MTN speedtest server is located in Jhb.
I have posted many direct links for my many SPEEDTEST.NET results. Again, I urge you to go through this thread.
Would you rather that I do not post my speedtest results?
Do you want to apply censorship towards me?
