My speeds still drop around 10Mbps when I connect the antenna, maybe my pole isn't high enough considering the tower is on a tall building and im in the ditch with clear LOS, seems like my antenna is beaming directly into the middle of the building.

Weird thing is, I get on the top of my roof with the router and bunny ears connected, speeds drop too.

It's like the spot the router is on now, on top of my fridge, gets the best speeds...in a house...double brick wall...in a corner

Have you tried tilting up the antenna to point at the antenna on the tower? The LTE antenna on the tower are usually flat and rectangular i.e. not as long as a 3g. BogLMAF.jpg

Do you have multiple towers in your area? Perhaps the roof is picking up signal from another tower to the fridge.
http://192.168.8.1/html/deviceinformation.html what are your figures here and does the cellid change between the 2 locations?

The bunny ears may have to be correctly orientated i.e. 45 or 90 degrees from each other for optimal throughput.

Best to load up that page on your phone and tilt external antenna 5 degrees at a time until u see the best figures.

+1 All the Telkom towers in my area with LTE have that flat and rectangular panels. Try to match it up as best to that with the antenna as pointing between 2 might not produce the best results.

With external antenna connected these are the figures:

download is about 60Mbps and 8Mbps down.

2.12km from tower - direct LOS.

Main tower went down this morning so by necessity had to try other tower.

Speedtests are slower but that may be because of the increased load on the tower because the other is out.

I had tried that and the chat function on their website.

Any way at about 6pm last night i get a phone call from Nomzamo to apologize for not having me active in the 4 hours she promised due to a technical glitch. She sais it should be good to go this morning. Wake up to the dreaded red light restart the router for about the 100th time since i received it. Wow a nice teal colored light active at last woooohoooo!!!

Any way i have to Say thank you to Nomzamo she is the first Telkom employee that bothered to keep me in the loop and follow up with me.

That is with the bunny ear antenna i will test with external antenna and update later.

So after waiting until the end of January for someone to call about antenna installation i gave up and got stuck in myself and got it installed.

Buy the way i dont have line of sight there is a great big hill between me and the tower.
So the antenna was aligned by signal strength readings only.

LTE wireless uncapped bundle purchase experience

Hi all,

How long does it usually take for Telkom to get back to you once signed up on the wesbite for the new Wireless LTE Uncapped bundle?

I've been waiting since Tuesday now with no response. Got the ref number etc?

In response to the original question, my experience is as below:
1. Applied on Thursday around 3pm, (14th of Jan)

2. Called on Friday noon, didn't have to wait for that long; was promised a call-back which I got a few hours later. (15th of Jan). Contract details were taken. 'They' didn't care that my actual address is 'out of range' of the given map from Telkoms' site.

3. On the following Wed, after hearing nothing since the good call on Friday, initiated an online- chatted to follow up (20th, Jan) A few minutes later, after chat-consultant promised a call back from sales, I got an SMS saying 'Approved' (20th, Jan). No call.

4. Called on 26th, told it takes 5-7 days, please wait.

5. Called(long wait of about 40 min) on morning of 28th (After 7 days :D ), told way-bill available and parcel is with courier. The instant I dropped phone with Telkom, Courier_IT called, got my parcel by 9.30am(At work). Got home that night and could not connect to network after setup.

6. After ~5 further calls, and 2 visits to Telkom stores(they refused to help because I made my purchase online; they were friendly though :) ), I got my card activated manually on feb-1. (Monday after the Thursday when parcel arrived). All is well now.

just a thought for the folks not in the coverage area getting coverage.

with WISP equipment, if you connect someone thats struggles to connect, it brings the connection quality down for everyone connecting on that equipment. the equipment tries to compensate for the poor connection and it spends too much resources on error correcting the poor conneciton. The same with the LTE towers, add a few other users out of bounds and now this thing is going nuts and you seen 5mbps down and 0.7 up and you moan LTE is now porked.

i assume it works similar with this equipment, since its wireless on another frequency. the providers try keep the connections on the tower above a certain quality to ensure a better quality connection.

just a thought.

Given the advertised availability, and number of uptakes (My area provided for 50+50+50=150), I was only the 4th person to take it up, I doubt that will come into play. Also, the equipment come with advanced power control algorithms and compensations to cater for needed shortcomings where there is need.

Also, you can be within the geographical area and still 'struggle to connect', because a lot of things can act against clear/quality signaling path (thickness of walls, trees, etc).

yeah a lot of things can cause a poor connection, but you have to start the limitations somewhere. a poor connection through a wall at 5 meters is better than a poor connection through a wall at 50 meters..

the advanced power control algorithms and compensations comes at the price of system resources, as with any device.

Does anyone know how i can speed up my delivery of my router

1)Tried the chat, they are useless and just give me phone numbers

2) Tried twitter, they respond saying it is marked as urgent and feedback will be provided soon....that was last week and this week, seems like they just copy and paste the response

3) Facebook,i activated my account after almost 7 years but they havent responded yet!!

4)Call centre, they seem friendly but have no clue they basically told me this week but also told me it would come last week
