Makro Sinotec Full HD Special

I started off thinking of getting a Full LCD but after a lot of reading I am shifting towards Full HD Plasma.

Probably 50 inch Full HD Samsung Plasma (If I cant find a Panasonic) or a 46 inch Full HD Sony LCD.

What do guys think is the better choice considering I need it for PS3, PC and TV (More TV).

Sammy 50" Plasma if you're gonna use it for TV 70% of the time, however, if you're gonna use it for PC more than 30% i'd recommend a FullHD LCD Set, whatever the size.

For exclusive PC use (surfing, gaming, Movies, Blu-ray/HD Series/Movies/IMAX) i'd say the Sinotec is perfect - that's where it performs best/it's strong points - PC use. it's because you need FullHD for PC and Sinotec does that for very cheap.

I havent used Sinotec for DSTV/TV use and I don't intend to - but so far it seems it's not good enough for TV - but neither is a Samsung HDtV LCD then IMO - LCD's have tearing problems - a lot of them - Plasmas not so much.

So A full HD LCD performs better than a full HD Plasma for PC use?

I considered the Sinotec LCD but considering that I am going to be using it for a lot of TV I thought that the Sony LCD will be better with its motion flow.

I bought the set last week, and I must say, I'm disappointed. I can't really blame Sinotec though, as I was warned by Marius at their office that this is a VERY basic model, with only a few features.

I had the Samsung 32" HD Ready before this, and was happy with it, but wanted something bigger.

Some complaints of mine:

1. The remote. When will TV manufacturers learn? Afficionados LOVE their remotes, the more buttons, the better. Seriously. This remote fit into the palm of my hand (literally) and was a grey, unattractive blob, with hardly any direct access.

2. Workmanship. The materials used seem cheap, as if they were trying to push for the most cost effective way to build the set. Fair enough, they were trying to build an affordable TV, which normally costs way more, but when you're trying to install the TV and a big piece of silver wrought iron almost takes your eye out, you have to question whether they could have made a little better design.

3. Inputs. The Samsung I had came with 2 component, 2 HDMI, two AV in, one AV out, RF, PC audio in and VGA. The 42HC56 came with 2 HDMI, two AV in, no AV out, one component, RF, PC audio in and VGA. I know it still seems a lot, but those ommision in inputs could leave you in the lurch when you have a lot of devices, as I'm sure happened to a lot of people (especially gamers) before.

4. No swivel on the stand. This seems insignificant, I know, but believe me, it's not. Wall mounters won't have a problem, but I did. How hard would have been to make the thing swivel?

There were other problems, like resolution off the PC (1600x1200 being the best, for some reason), and adjustment problems with the set, but I'm gonna leave it there, because I have a feeling that if this is your first LCD/TV with high resolution, you'll love it. People with more expensive models prior to owning the Sinotec might feel shortchanged though. And that's why I'm going to get me an LG plasma tomorrow..

I went to Makro last week with the intention of buying the Sinotec full HD LCD. The 47 inch was going for 12K which I thought was great. The biggest mistake was taking the wife with. She wanted the Samsung as it "looked nicer". But the Samsung (12K) was HD Ready and I need to be able to work from my couch :o so I need full HD. Believe me. If I was alone the Sinotec would be at home right now.

With more research I have also found out about the LCD problems so the option is now a "nice looking" Samsung Full HD Plasma or the Sony LCD's.

I have been looking at prices of both. The cheapest I found the Samsung is 24K and the Sony so far is around the same for 40 inch. Now that I checked the 46 inch is like 37K.

Makro has a sony 46 inch (I think 100Hz) for around 20K. (Is the extra 100Hz really worth an extra 17K?). I am willing to spend up to about 25K but would prefer to spend less so I can actually buy the PS3 to use on the thing. Amazing that I started off with a budget of about 10K and it has now gone to that :(

exactly why I chose a smaller Sony, the thing actually looks like a piece of art.

I tend to look more at whats on screen - blu-ray's are excellent and so are DVDs, Gaming Surfing & PC Use...i'm happy with it.

@ brawler: work of art or not, how much do you look at the set when it's off?

I don't use the remote

never seen this "piece of silver wrought iron" on my set :confused:

I have plenty of inputs - way more than I need...at the time of buying some of the expensive brand names had less inputs (like 1 HDMi for example)

Swivel? what swivel? for what? shifting it up or down?

Resolution running at 1920x1080 first time connected - I use DVI-to-HDMI.

A little harsh :)

He's mentioned why he doesn't like it, because he didn't get what he expected from it for his use. There's no need to attack his argument based on your usage patterns and expectations from a set :p
 
ok does my plan sound decent?
i get the 42' for 8k and it sits in my room now primarily for Xbox 360 and Dvds.
In 2-3 years when i move out i hopefully have an HD Pvr and the quality on the sinotec with HD pvr will be better than SD? in all honesty i dont care about a remote...if it has an on/off button ,skip,fast forward,open close tray and some others im not bothered.its wierd how a remote can turn ppl off a product...lol. But if i see another known brand 32' and i love the style i might just go for that

Look it's not the best set out there but it certainly is not the worst either and in terms of bang for buck no one comes close, not even close, R8k for a 42" FULL HD LCD with a 5 YEAR WARRANTY!!!! Please!!!!
 
Went to go look at the Sinotec today and I really was not impressed, the image on the 42" Full HD was really blurry. Think it might have to be the 37" Full HD Samsung on special for 9k.

ffs im getting tired of the sources these places use - It's not anywhere near blurry on it unless you have a blurry source!

HD is crystal clear here!?
 
Yup, and I still maintain my Sinotec handles SD Multicrap better than the Sammys & Sonys that I would've paid R3k more for a year ago.

It was Makro Centurion, the source was a dvd - some or other animation. The same source was being sent to all the tv's in store, so it was a direct comparison. And the Samsung just looked so much better. Are you telling me it's worth another look?

let me tell you, when i bought mine, they had "a bugs life" playing and it looked pretty crap... as I have it at home, DVD's look WAY different, even Compressed AVI's !

....and i'm not even talking about bluray.

trust me, they use long composite cables or something - not HDMi.

it's to sell the R16,000 screens without making the customer feel he is spending more than he needed to.

Do me a favor - take an XBox with, and see for yourself.
