Makro Sinotec Full HD Special

with 20k, i'd be happier with a sinotec 46" in my lounge, and another sinotec 42" in my toilet for when i'm taking a leak..... maybe even hook it up to the ceiling for when I want to lie on my back and watch TV, or put it in my kitchen cupboard, for when I open it every once and again.

yeah, I know it's a waste - but 20k for 1 screen is a waste too.
 
Just to clarify. I did not buy one.
Looks like I will be buying the 42" Sinotec tonight from Game.
 
Lengthy post sharing my final thoughts and final decision.

Okay, after some last minute research and another 90 minutes of viewing different sets I decided to go the Plasma route.

Did some research regarding response times and what it all meant for the content I will be watching 90% of the time. SPORT. Rugby, athletics and cricket in particular.

Luckily when I arrived at Game in Menlyn the game between Bulls and Sharks just started and comparing the screens was perfect for me because it was playing live content and content I will be watching most of the times.

To understand where I am coming from, please read this: Response time

So I stood there with a friend and my fiancee and we viewed 10 minutes on each screen and then switched to a different screen, then back to the first one etc. (We viewed LCD vs Plasma, both Sinotec)

LCD
We could all clearly see the tearing, lagging and blurring as soon as the game got faster or as soon as a ball was kicked. Even on the Sony and Samsung sets it was clearly visible. Its like dragging your mouse very fast on a LCD and you only see certain parts of it during the path.

Plasma
There was none of that blurring, tearing or lagging that was seen on the LCD.
Black/Gray color was much clearer on the Plasma.

I made a decision on the fact that I will only be viewing DSTV(mainly sport) and some DVD's on my set. I will never be happy if I had to watch the Boks play against NZ and all that tearing and blurring occurs.
One thing that did bother my friend and fiancee was the glare from the glass screen on the Plasma. I'm convinced it will not be an issue when it is in my house. Mainly because our TV room is quite dark and because my lights will not be shining directly down onto the screens like the display ones at Game.

I also understand that the new Generation Sony LCD's has "Motion-Flow" and all that fancy stuff which in turn limits the blurring and tearing, but that is out of my price range at this moment in time.

Price for the 42" Plasma is currently R8999 at Game but I clearly remember it being R7499.00 just 2 weeks ago. Asked the managers if they could do that price again and unfortunately they can't but assured me that it will definitely be on special for that price again and soon they added.
Also added if I can spot it cheaper anywhere else they would beat that price.
 
you are 100% correct Apoc84. you need a plasma.

for PC use though, LCD is the only way to go - and ONLY at 1080p.

720p looks better than 1080p if the feed is in SD or 720p (like dstv HD)

Agree with you, you wont regret getting the plasma. Never had any blurring problems on mine
As for glare, its not much of a problem as long as you dont have light shining directly on the screen so if your room is fairly dark then it wont be an issue

The only crappy thing about the Sinotecs that i havent seen mentioned in this thread is the remote, but you shouldnt need it much. I have just programmed the few functions i need into my DSTV remote

btw, I think the other retailer that sells Sinotec is PnP Hyper so also check out if they have any specials on

Yeah, I also use DSTV remote for everything. Very convenient.

Thanks for the tip about PnP.
Will pop into the big PnP Atterbury tomorrow and see if they have decent prices on them.
Game will beat any price so I guess my final sale will be made at Game.

Hi TonyA.

Went to the Atterbury Hyper and they only had the 42" LCD. No plasma's.
Price on the LCD was same as Makro @ R8499.00.

Got home and phoned all the other Hypermarkets around. They don't stock the Sinotec Plasma's.

Thanks for the analysis comparing LCD and Plasma, adds credence to the argument for Plasma but now as you see the challenge is to find them. Your patients will be rewarded with an excellent product with an excellent warranty at an excellent price...

I wonder if you would be able to approach Sinotec direct and ask if you can purchase a set from them? Being a very service orientated company they may sort you out one way or another....

Why not email the GM Jimmy Kaveen at [email protected] and ask his advise?

Erm... boramk - LG sucks big, salty goat's balls. Every single LG product I've owned has conked out either just before, or annoyingly just after the 12 month warranty expires... That's a DVD player/recorder, an external DVD writer, a vacuum cleaner and a 32" LCD.

I'll give many brands a shot - anything that seems to offer decent value at a given price - but I will never again touch an LG product, not with a 10' barge pole.

I'm not pro LG, I just really dislike Sinotech, there was a bunch of them next to a bunch of Sony, Samsung and LG displays that were soo much better, It was the first time I saw a Sinotech and I remembered how people in MyBB were talking about how "good" it looked :sick:

Would it not be possible to ask if would consider special deal for MyBB members?
 
I did send them an email but I asked if they would be so kind to supply me with a list of their stockist in and around Pretoria. That way I can make sure that I keep an eye out for the specials.

I doubt they will sell directly to the public, but if any of you wanna give it a go you can let us know what they said.
