Manual vs Automatic

.
My god, but you do chop and change. Originally, the BMW drivers couldn't overtake your pre-historic sardine can. Now they lunatics with double the torque.

You know what. I took you off ignore and within seconds I regret that decision.

1. Follow a conversation before commenting so that you can pick up the context. It will help you to not put your foot into it.
2. This conversation is about how to handle driving a low-performance automatic on a known pass WITH an 80 kph speed limit and two lanes on the uphill, in a car that struggles to perform at a speed just too low to be comfortable, without breaking the speed limit.
3. And the point is so many owners of powerfull automatics appear to struggle to drive within the speed limit even though they should be able to do so easily and without any trouble. If they would, then those with smaller automatics would also be able to use the right-hand lane if their vehicles are able to.
4. It has nothing to do with the other example.
5. And finally, you still persist with the personal attacks. I don't drive a pre-historic sardine can. You and your fellow trolls decided that for yourselves and I refuse to correct your stupid assumption.

back on ignore you go.

One was enough.

Actually, wasn't that the M series BMW you were talking about? The one which you did, then didn't drive, and didn't clarify which was correct?

How does an M-series BMW equate to a "bottom feeder automatic" that would make you rather walk?

You're a joke dude. You are the one that keeps on shifting goal posts while talking absolute nonsense. There are no "bottom feeder" BMW auto's that would struggle up a pass vs your tin can at 90 Kph.

And the age of your car is determinable by your own posts, genius.

I think he was using hyperbole. Understandably.

No, I don't think so. Look at his history of complete exaggeration in this thread. He means it. He has got things wrong over and over but refuses to admit it. Typical stubborn old man.

Go sit on a manual...gear lever :)
Your response, whilst childishly amusing, does not answer the question. The question was whether or not you're having a tough day today, or if this is your usual personality. Please answer the question.

Trying to disguise your insult?

Nah, merely rewording as it seems you didn't understand it the first time. Try being a nice person, or merely civil - you'll probably have better luck.

Irony - maybe you should lead by example then, and not call someone a "po3s".

But still waiting for a factual rebuttal. Are you also an old person, by any chance?

I would, but I like to call a spade a spade, not a sharpened digging implement.

I'm not here to rebut, just curious as to your unnecessary aggression.

Define "old person".

The whole conversation up to that point was very lighthearted. Maybe just relax a bit. Nobody means any harm. Plus I understood exactly what he meant with that comment. I felt like chewing my wrists off with that old auto, it put me off autos for almost 10 years. So I understand what he meant with his comment. That actually made me think some of his older comments was misunderstood.

Ok, you confirm you actually were calling me a "po3s"/spade.

Umm, despite your facade of being "reasonable", it is moronic to come here and tell me to be calm and not aggressive, whilst calling me a "po3s" in your opening post.

It also shows you have no idea as to context, and what the thread is about. if you read, you will see others have said the very same thing. He has just been continuously stubborn on this thread.

As for old, I would say around 70. How old are you?

Now, fair enough. Maybe urban should take pointer from you as to how to tell someone to calm down a bit :)

I just get a bit fed up with Geoff's continuous go at BMW's and drivers. And not just in this thread.

There's another thread where he dropped in talking about his "love/hate" with BMW cars quality and their drivers. If he's going to dish it out, he mustn't cry when it gets driven back at him.

Well, if you reread my initial post, you'll see I asked you a question. A question which, on second inspection, you will see was trying to determine whether you're having a bad day (and thus understandably snarky) or if you're generally a po3s. I didn't once say you were a po3s, though the implication was there based on your posts.

I'm certainly nowhere near 70.

Bleh. You thought you were cleverly implying it, but then duffed it rather by confirming you prefer to call a spade a spade (as a reply to where I was saying you shouldn't call me such given your assumed position of moral superiority).

But closer to 70 than 60, I imagine.

No, initial post was merely a question, your rebuttals since, and failure to actually answer the question, merely confirmed it.

I took my 1982 VW Golf GLS out for a drive to the Hartebeespoort area yesterday to meet some biker friends for lunch and driving it reminded me of one reason why 'new' drivers on our roads are so terrible. There are power assisted brakes which are rubbish compared to modern brakes anyway, there is nothing else assisted or automatic, so you have to pay attention pretty much 110% of the time.

You make it sound like modern cars drive the car for you...but they don't. Very few have anything active, it's all passive technology for when things go wrong.

You still need to pay attention 110% just the same.

Only difference is when you get it wrong you don't end up in a tree.
