Hi guys,

my friend seems to have a problem with his telkom router that I am at a lost to explain how to sort it out, he has recently switched to mweb uncapped 384 and this used to work great on his shiro modem on windows xp he had before, but he swapped this for a telkom mega 105 modem another one of my friends had due to the mega 105 being able to connect his ps3 and his pc together and provide wlan for another pc in his house, thats all great for him but now heres the strange part:

when he enters his username and password on the router his ps3 can access the internet fine and so do the wifi connection i tested on using my cell phone,

the pc can also access the internet fine IF he is running windows 7 or vista, but on xp he seems to be getting DNS errors and cannot resolve host- for example I checked through command prompt with a ping to www.mweb.co.za got no response yet if i try the ping with an IP address it responds?

this can be bypassed however if he creates a PPPoE connection and it all works great!?

I have reset the router back to default several times with no luck, and he recently re-installed windows so I am lost why this is happening? could this be IP4 and IP6 which is supported by newer versions of windows thats allowing it to resolve?

Help please

I'm thinking it's a driver problem, since you said it works fine on Windows 7, it could also simply be a configuration problem. Have you tried making a dial-in connection on the Pc? and also IP4 and IP6 can't really be the problem as most of us don't use IP6 yet, well I don't and I'm using Windows 7.

It is a problem with Windows XP Service Pack 3. Just set the DNS server to 10.0.0.2 (or whatever the router's IP is) on the affected PC.
