MG6. Your thoughts...?

Test drove the Optima today and it's certainly not as sluggish as some reports have made it out to be. It's also a helluva pretty car, but the interior does have a somewhat plastic feel to it. The MG6 is no longer on the cards. I came to my senses - thanks for that.

Now the decision is whether to just take the company car and save up for the Jag in a year, or buy the Optima now. I'm leaning towards the former...

Save, save, save! Jags since TATA's takeover are orsm. They do their takeovers right; pump in the money, but allow the companies to continue doing things their own way.

I made a thread about this car a couple of months back when I was looking for a new car. It looks nice and everything but the interior quality leaves much to be desired. On road tests, for instance, the chrome around the gear lever starts wearing off after a few months.

...and then there is the dealership problems. IIRC MG went bankrupt and this is their first car after the new investors saved it. And what happens if they pull out of RSA again? parts availability?

I wouldn't touch it.

Taking into account they've a much bigger market than us, this excerpt from the Wiki article puts into perspective just how poorly the MG 6 was received in the UK:

Seven months after its introduction to the UK in the summer of 2011, the MG6 was selling in very small numbers. After sales of only 15 units in October 2011, only seven registrations for the MG brand as a whole were recorded in November (of which three were presumably TF roadsters).

Some cited lack of advertising and low perceived quality as problematic, while the absence of a diesel and an estate option were also mooted.

However, in December, car rental company Avis UK Ltd announced that it would be running 100 MG6 GT and Magnette in its rental fleet and took delivery of these cars.

Damn guy...that's a steal there...tons of (almost new) car for the money.

Question do you trust the brand's longevity...servicing; spares; parts..& then come your resale time...that's the big Q
