Hi all,

After the clusterf**k of the last 5 days with Afrihost I am moving ISP. In summary, 10mbps line running at 1mbps if I am lucky due to their throttling.

Can anyone recommend a good alternative for 10mbps CAPPED ADSL? I need about 300gb/month.

Thanks

I am going to WebAfrica at month end. Going for the business capped 120+240 @R559.00 Tested their free home capped account and it was awesome.

Definitely Crystal Web - came from Web Africa home capped - it was good, but I'm happier now with the quality of internet :)

That seems like pretty good value, thanks. Tell me...is there downtime involved in migrating, as I've never migrated before. I work from home so that's pretty important. I guess I will speak to them and work it out.

Thanks

Thanks, I will give it a look.

You can go to crystalweb.co.za and launch the live chat at the bottom right. Someone will be able to help you with a product to suite your requirements. Their full set of products along with their customer portal etc. will be released the beginning of this coming month as far as I know.

Can't go wrong with VOX wrt capped

I did not cancel my AH, went to change package to the free 1 gig. So I hope it will go over to that on the 1st. Will then use the Afrihost 1gb to sign up on Web Africa. Change details, restart, profit :D

Not just a pretty face, eh? Smart idea.

Ask for a trail with Web africa first! I got one and local pings during the day are abysmal. Lots of bad slowdowns too making browsing very unpleasant. I have emailed them with my concerns and will find out of they address any of the problems...

I asked CW for a trail account but they ignored my request so screw them. :)

I am personally probably going to telkom end of month *shudders* However I only average 140gb a month so I don't know how fast i will get shaped/throttled.

Give some serious thought to the Vox fat pipe

Telkom? Seriously? There must be a better alternative.

I have telkom on our 2nd adsl line. It has performed well ever since we got it. It has slowdowns but no packet loss or high pings.

Youtube and streaming works on it.

We do around 100gb on it a month and we have not had problems with it yet...

Afrihost works well for me (maybe not the past couple of weeks but it did) but I have packetloss with them and they seem to not care at all. Seems a problem multiple users are complaining about.

How does this work?

I saw setup fee's in their price? What? What is that?

You also get bolt on gigs for the day? what?

I am sorry that vox isp sounds like a bad place to be I would rather go to mweb then.

It's proper business class data, IIRC it has a very low contention ratio, and you'll get the best experience for capped Internet in SA, give their call center a shout (or even better PM their rep over here) and ask them to explain it all to you, I've never owned an account but a couple of friends do and they haven't looked back, when have used their connection it always flies

Dude you know what warnings signs are for me?

A website that would look good for 1995
a setup fee for something that costs nothing to set up
talking about buying cap for uncapped products
contracts with bandwidth (Even capped that is bs)

Now I am not saying they are bad (hell people are happy with openweb) but there are times that you have to question things. I will probably never go to them unless they offer a trail to test them or a free 1gb account to test.

I don't see any mention of a setup fee? And I'm talking about Vox Telecom, not Open Web
