Hi MyBB Community

I am toying with the idea of moving my fibre line from Telkom to Afrihost. It seems I still need to serve the 30-day cancellation period on Telkom's end, and thus can only activate the Afrihost service in a minimum of 30 days.

My questions:
  1. Is this your experience as well?
  2. How did you handle this migration?
  3. Is Afrihost a ‘good’ move?
  4. Is anyone aware of a ‘great’ deal on 100mbps or 200mbps Fibre line?
Thanks & Regards

I have both an Afrihost and a Cool Ideas fibre connection. I use Afrihost for my business and Cool Ideas for my private connection at home. I have extensive experience with many service providers and I can safely say that you will not make a mistake moving from Telkom to either of the two that I use. There is a reason that these two are commonly 1st and 2nd place, rated as best ISP's in the country. Telkom is the absolute worst service provider you can have.

I agree fully. Use Afrihost at home for fibre and AirMobile on my phones. No issues and support is great if you need help.

I moved over from openserve 2 months ago. It was completely painless. We had about 2 hours of downtime due the cut-over.

Just make sure that you cancel all the "threads"of the Telkom service 30 days in advance of the cut-over date...

Yall over exaggerating with Afrihost. They're not that bad at all. Of course no isp is perfect. Majority of the times it just depends on your fno. If it's Vumatel forget about reliable internet

I moved over in April, because my bundled fibre package from 2015 pricing increased dramatically over the last 2 years. Almost never used the bundled landline, so was paying extra for nothing.

The cancellation of the Telkom service and the activation of the AfriHost service was painless. About 90 minutes downtime. The AfriHost app is MUCH better than Telkom's. Faster and has more user data.

However, one point to note, is that there is now another link (potential break-point) in the system. I'm still using Telkom (OpenServe) fibre, but via a different ISP. The only downtime/faults that I ever experienced with Telkom was when submarine cables were damaged - everyone in South Africa experienced that. The AfriHost / Telkom interface was down twice in our area since I moved over - once for about 16 hours!

I only see a R22 difference on the 50/25Mbs packages.
/s I will type this slowly...

My BUNDLED 100/50 Telkom package included a landline, calls and a SIM with 3 gig per month. The BUNDLED package was previously within R50, compared to other packages. This increased to R1030 , with big increases last year and this year. I almost never used the bundled landline, so was paying extra for nothing there. Also, 3 gig data is cheap as chips nowadays.

You could have switched packages if you didn't use the bundled stuff.

Yeah, I don't trust Telkom's customer-facing systems. Also, their constant cold-calling to pressure me to upgrade the line-speed was really getting under my skin...

Whatever works for you.
