The truth is inconvenient - no one likes it and you're no exception - creating nonsensical smokescreen... bringing the ANC and EFF into a DA mess... Why not include the right-wing FF+ while you're at it? because it doesn't suit your narrative? Either you're clueless or you're naive...

No not because of focusing on Zuma, they assumed that a Gupta stooge would win the nomination and as a result there would be millions of disenfranchised ANC voters of for grabs, so they focused on the ANCs lowest common denominator.

His Tweet yesterday after Maimane and Trollip's exits seemed to indicate that he will remain a member of the DA. He will probably get one of the major leadership posts when the DA elects and could be in contest for leadership as well.

Strategically though, it may not be a good move from DA to make him their leader. They should ideally go with Madikizela or Winde to maintain Western Cape.

I would love to see Steenhuisen rise to the top. Every single speech of his that I have watched has been great.

The question arises is whether the DA now leans hard into non-racialism and makes a white person the face of the party (very risky considering their perception amongst the average joe), or if they backpedal and go for someone less known but the right skin colour (I'm not super clued up on the DA but as far as I can tell their major African/black/not white people seem to have left except for Van Damme and Solly).

They're near the centre. They're basically social democrats. They're liberal on some social issues and conservative on others. Their economic policies seem to favour a social democracy.

Well I think they want progress rather than staying in the same place or going backwards. So they'll need to be social liberals. Probably some economic liberalism too.

Many conservatives tend to lean towards neoclassical or neoliberal economics. Less common are those that favour actual capitalism rather than the former pseudo versions.

You might not see it this way, but it's not necessarily a race issue. Maimane was definitely guiding the party in a direction of being ANC-lite.

The argument that if we help people who are less well off (regardless of the colour of their skin) is solid. The only people who would be kakking are the tenderpreneurs or people who got where they are ONLY because they have larger amounts of melanin in their skin.

Related but slightly OT, I have some sympathy for Gwen. The amount of flak she gets online for "rejecting her blackness/African-ness" (whatever that is) is ridiculous. I'm not white and I am such a mixed bag culturally (if they ever put "bastard child of the internet" on our identity documents I will tick it). Yes, she changed her name, so maybe part of her rejected her cultural roots, but until we know why we can't really judge it. She may hate being black, or she may hate a part of her culture for a good reason. Only she knows.
