most wise upgrade for my pc?

the amount of performance you get from a solid state drive is not enough to outway the cost but thanks anyway. thanks for advise about the macs but what is said is true. im not keen on a mac at all they not my thing. and i like to upgrade. not really looking for a screen atm( maybe later on next year) i have an acer 193w or something like that. i have a pretty basic keyboard and my microsoft HABU has not put a single foot wrong since i bought it. yeah many people are saying the new 58 series cards are gonna rock so i guess i'll do some research. unfortunately my MOBO dont support sli. so cant get two cards. im happy with my no name brand case that looks like a dragon but if i haveto upgrade it i have no choice. thinking either cooler HAF(love that whole "if you mess with me i'll make you watch as i murder your family then cut you into tiny bits" look that it has) or the coolermaster cosmos but they seem a bit expensive.

well thanks guys and please keep the responses comeing:D

I think all your options have been laid out before you pretty much :)

+1 on the graphics
like everyone else has suggested, wait for the 5-series.

I also wouldn't underestimate the value of a 64-bit operating system with a few added GB's of ram

sell you current rig when the 58XX comes out then go i7/i5 with a 5850/70! you should have enough for that!

1. Your Q9400 is plenty sufficient, just grab a Hyper 212 Plus for round R300 and OC it a bit ( 3.0-3.6 ) Easy as pie. (do not listen to anyone suggesting another platform!)

2. Ram is fine

3. Yip I'd say grab a 1TB Samsung F1 or something similar, or if you have the cash a ssd, but I reckon you'd enjoy the extra capacity of a 1TB.

4. Upgrade your GPU, either wait for the 5850 (round 2 weeks) or grab a 2nd hand 4890/4870 1GB from Prophecy forums. (dependant on your screen size? 1280x 1024, 1680 x 1050, 1920 x 1080/1200 ?)

That would be my advice as well. Just go Socket 1156 with an 860 and you should be good for a while still. Could even do that with a 4890.

oryt guys i think thanks to everyones advice i'll wait as long as i can so the 5870 price comes down a little( maybe they'll bring out a 5870x2 who knows) and get the 1tb hard drive. again with the suggestion about i7 i'd haveto get a new mobo and DDR3 ram which is gonna be too pricey. and i'd barely get peanuts for my current pc( DAM THE DEPRECIATION RATE OF PC HARDWARE!)

again thanks everyone for the help you've provide even though i decided to take the hard drive and gpu, many of you showed me other options so i thank EVERYONE.

i'll post another similar question closer to the time( maybe some things change before then) until they...stays strong everyone;)

stick with current pc, spend about R4 000 on the graphics card, maybe a little more ram ( about 2 gigs maybe?) a nice big harddrive, and WINDOWS 7 GOD DAMMIT((64 bit)), it's not going to serve you any benefit rolling with XP when you can't use dx10 (or dx11), and windows 7 is a far cry from Vista :)

+1 to what others r saying, ur CPU is decent enuff that an upgrade will not rly result in much of a performance diff., the most important thing is ur GPU.

spend ur cash on a great GPU (maybe w8 for the radeon 5000 series) and maybe grab a little more RAM cos its cheap, and u'll be sorted for well well under ur budget.

Get a few thousand more and get a Macbook or an iMac. You won't regret it.

bwahahah.... lol @ "You won't regret it" :D :D

yeah those super fast 9400gs GFX cards that you get with those expensive imacs should do it.... :p
