Moto G

My MotoG3 2GB is in Johannesburg :) If all goes well I'll have it early in next week.

Mine is also in Jhb. The FedEx tracking says overnight express. Will most probably be delivered tomorrow.

I am hoping they make it for tomorrow. Going on holiday on Saturday.

Where did you get a cover for the motog? I had to order one from Amazon, but looks like that will only arrive late next week if not the week thereafter.

Cover as in rear cover or a complete protective case? I ordered a purple rear cover from eBay, need to get another one.

I will be very surprised if the phone shows up tomorrow, but it will be a pleasant surprise. I will be even more surprised in the rear covers arrive in the next 3 months.

I ordered a protective cover - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B010RN7STU?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00

If you get it in 3 months you are lucky. Currently I am still waiting for a Raspberry Pi case and waterproof bluetooth speaker, but have given up on that. Shipping with Amazon is not bad on small items. Was only $7 for the cover.

I see my shipment is on the plane from Jhb to Cpt. Hope to see it delivered some time in the morning.

Because I am cheap and stupid I went and bought two of these http://www.ebay.com/itm/131618073796 maybe because it is from the UK it will only take 1 month. My order is currently : 2015-12-11 06:30 CAPE TOWN Off CONS Manifest so there is hope of me having some 2GB goodness this weekend.

Sometimes it is hard to justify our own (biased) view on devices. Therefore I am giving a bit of feedback on the first 12 hours a normal "user" has on our beloved Moto G.

It does not often happen that my wife and I have the same phones. When we were engaged we both had Nokia 6230i handsets, the first affordable phones to boast a +megapixel sensor (1.3 mp). Some years later when 5 megapixels made their debut on smartphones we both had N82 Nokia phones. We both adored these phones. That was 7 years ago.

For someone that just wants a phone that works and takes good pictures the Moto G 3rd seemed to impress my SO. She likes the twist gesture to active the camera as well as the handshake maneuver that shines the torch. We are talking about someone that carried a bulky S4 Zoom for 2 years simply to have the best camera phone in the business with which she captured moments from the first two years of our daughter. The 10x zoom and OIS is something the Moto G cannot match, but the speedy camera and it's friendly camera user interface get her approval.

When she was due for an upgrade at the end of September I suggested the Huawei P8 Lite. Having had a P6 and P7 myself I figured the P8 Lite would be an affordable version of the P7, a phone that really impressed me. That was not the case, the 13mp camera was not a Sony unit as you get in other Huawei devices, it is a much cheaper OmniVision module, add to that it is rather sluggish. Long story short she did not like it very much and was hesitant when I told her my latest craze, Motorola G phones, was worth it.

Thankfully I can now safely say that she is very impressed with her Moto G 3rd 1GB/8GB, needless to add I absolutely love my Moto G 3rd 2GB/16GB - it is quicker than the 1GB and for someone that does not use memory cards the internal storage is handy.

RH360, what do you make of your 2GB Moto G?

I'm also a fan of the motos, but more so the nexus range. The camerain the 3rd if I'm not mistaken is the same from the old nexus 6. Does it not have OIS?

Indeed it is, if you check Wikipedia you will see the Exmor RS IMX214 has been used in many phones.

2 days 13 hours - would have probably been able to push it to 3 days. Almost feels like the 2GB lasts longer on a charge.

Not that impressive considering you hardly used the screen. How much on time?

That's pretty average. I hate to say it but nothing on this earth beats the 6 plus.

Agree, but I get jealous when I need to charge and the wife's 6 plus has 75% even after 3 hours of on screen. And she's on it all the time. Scarily good.

I'm on my 4th nexus device so I'm an android fanboi, butbi have to admit that somehow ios has screen on time numbers that defy belief. A lot of is the lower power hungry multitasking etc and the fact that the hardware just uses less power.

Basically because they design the software for the hardware without variations its possible.

Still perfer android obviose.
