MTN Fixed LTE/LTE-A Speedtests

Nopes speedtest was done from device wifi....got a B618 and got 150+150 sim only from Afrihost.

Very nice speeds that. ;)

With Afrihost you get an Airmobile IP on the WAN port. That means you can forward ports for gaming if you want. :)

You can also claim your 1GB free Airmobile apn data for your phone if you use MTN on your phone. You can do that via the app each month.

How? Never knew about that, although not sure if it'll affect my pings playing World of Warships...I get about 200ms+ currently and a lousy 17fps even on lowest gfx setting, which sees me dead in no time usually.

If you login to your router under system status you should see the Afrihost Airmobile ip on the WAN ip. That means you can use the DMZ or Virtual Server setting in the router under security I think it is to forward ports.

No unrestricted APN needed when using Afrihost Fixed LTE on MTN. ;)

I'm in the process of switching from Supersonic fixed MTN to Afrihost fixed MTN. I was getting about 90mbps using my Supersonic sim. I'm assuming/hoping that I will use the same base station when using the Afrihost sim, so I should see similar speeds?

Yes you should. The traffic will be handed over to Afrihost and you will get an Airmobile ip address. Speeds will still be as they were before on the same tower your ISP is just Afrihost now with Afrihost transit providers instead of MTN Business which Supersonic uses.

The router as it stands is currently on "Auto".
Any tips to perhaps get past the magical 100mb+ mark?
If you run the speed test enough times in succession you might get to see the elusive 100Mbps!

If you know where the tower is located you might be able to rotate the router to improve the reception. What is your Cell ID? I was able to get an additional 10Mbps by turning my router through 90 degrees. You can try to select the 1800+2100 bands only using the LTE_1800+2100 batch file in the Huawei B618 Bandtool. Just remember to switch it back using LTE_ALL file.

Cancelling my Supersonic MTN tomorrow. Received my Afrihost sim today.

Can you perhaps run a speedtest to London on each one for comparison?

Very interesting results! Now I'm even happier that I've decided to switch! (Slightly lower ping doesn't bother me that much...)

Shew I must be really lucky then. Iv got speeds over 200mbps often but mostly around 165mbps

Apparently MTN does not allow port forwarding!!
Damn! Trying to access a device behind my B618 router.

Also,it never lets me add an IP address to setup a virtual server, keeps giving me "ip address is empty or invalid, please reenter" whatever I try.

MTN direct yes but on Supersonic you get a public IP on the WAN port.

I'm on Afrihost. Is that why I cant even seem to add a IP address on the virtual server page of my B618?!
@AfriNatic Can you confirm above ?

No that sounds like a router issue.

On Afrihost LTE you get a public IP on the wan port and port forwarding should work if configured correctly in the router.
