MTN Uncapped Lite for R299

mtn uncapped lite im confused

HI

I got this mtn uncapped lite with 3 gigs of data a month.I understan the whole fair usage policy thing where they throttle you etc but I have read a post in another thread -

"
Mtn speaks a different language to the rest of the community.
For example, with their latest promotion R299 for 3G lte uncapped.
Be careful, very careful, otherwise you will end up with a huge and ridiculous
bill. To most of us uncapped means uncapped not Mtn's version of 3 gigs for
R299 and then after that R0.19 for each megabyte. Which means that for 20 gigs
extra it will cost you R3800. Their version of uncapped means that you will have an
open line after using up 3 gigs and then you will be faced with a choked connection,
and at such an inflated price! It is madness if nothing else to join MTN if you use
30 - 40 gigabytes per month.
To sum up it is my opinion that MTN is taking South Africa for a ride and should be
avoided like the plague!

Now is this true do mtn charge you oob rates if you use up your 3 gigs of data on the uncapped lite package?

And also in that same thread a user said a guy at mtn said they throttle you to 1mb/ps after you used up your data?I thought it was 128kb/ps

I used up my 3 gigs of data before the 15th of this month and I can confirm my speed is running at 1Mbps sometimes even higher so im confused unless they reset ur account and load the 3 gigs of data before the beginning of a new month.

Can anyone explain please?

oh and heres the part about the 1 mb throttle thing
\
i was at the mtn store enquiring about this deal

and aked the guy about speeds and he said you would get 3g hsdpa which would be +- 3.6mb for the 1st 3gigs and they throttle you to 1mb after that

NO buddy Im not kidding have a look! I was wrong about the date tho I Used up my 3 gig on the 19th and it was throttled to 128kbps but from the 21 it was significantly faster heres my proof!

and this one is my speedtest I did just now

well im enjoying my internet for now I hope it stays this way forever I dont need anything faster than this

I wish they would make it mandatory education that adsl usage isn't always just "heavy downloading" or pirating. It's sad that some people can only make that association...

Hi Guys,

After moving to a new location with shocking ADSL, I am tempted at looking at a 3G device. I am not a heavy downloader [ read Pirate...arrrrr], my habits are internet surfing, driver downloads and maybe some online gaming now and then. Primarily the unit will be for my wife for her online courses etc.

What is the MTN uncapped lite like. What sort of speeds are expected on the network, what sort of latency is experienced to local servers and international ones. I expect this is not good enough to play World of Warcraft on for instance. But maybe some Battlefield Bad Company 2 on SAIX servers perhaps?

Your feedback will be appreciated.

I just called MTN to double check on this and the guy that I spoke to said that after the 3GB, the speed will be throttled but also you will be charged at 29c per mb on a seperate invoice. Can anyone confirm this

so after the 3GB Cap will u be charged? And will you have a 1mb line speed after the 3gb cap?

I'm still trying to get there, only killed 1Gb so far, will try to up the usage before the end of the month to hit the "3Gb barrier". The only gripe so far is that I've only got 3 to 4 bars of HSPA in an area the size of a small desk, even though I'm in Centurion. But so far so good. Will keep everybody posted.

So how's it going killing that cap?
Time's running out
i need details about life on 128kbps :)

I was also considering this package but last night I activated the 1 day uncapped account. The 128kb is pathetic to say the least. I opened the my broadband website and went to the loo and back but it was still loading. Eventually I closed the browser. Check my speedtest results:

That settles it then, no MTN (and no cell c since wooosh is turning into a whimper...)
Hello 8ta or iburst

MTN Uncapped, 1 October. How is it? How much u downloaded?

So who tried the mtn uncapped? Whats the speeds like? How many Gigs you downloaded? Hows the torrent speeds?

I'm getting my wireless router delivered tomorrow. Can't wait! Will let you know how it goes.

Router and sim was delivered today, but there's some data related issue with the sim, and it's been escalated with the networks people because neither the 1555, nor the 808 help desks could sort it out. What a bummer!

Does someone maybe know someone who might be able to look into this without me having to wait until who knows when before I can use my product?
