Mtn speaks a different language to the rest of the community.
For example, with their latest promotion R299 for 3G lte uncapped.
Be careful, very careful, otherwise you will end up with a huge and ridiculous
bill. To most of us uncapped means uncapped not Mtn's version of 3 gigs for
R299 and then after that R0.19 for each megabyte. Which means that for 20 gigs
extra it will cost you R3800. Their version of uncapped means that you will have an
open line after using up 3 gigs and then you will be faced with a choked connection,
and at such an inflated price! It is madness if nothing else to join MTN if you use
30 - 40 gigabytes per month.
To sum up it is my opinion that MTN is taking South Africa for a ride and should be
avoided like the plague!
i was at the mtn store enquiring about this deal
and aked the guy about speeds and he said you would get 3g hsdpa which would be +- 3.6mb for the 1st 3gigs and they throttle you to 1mb after that
Hi Guys,
After moving to a new location with shocking ADSL, I am tempted at looking at a 3G device. I am not a heavy downloader [ read Pirate...arrrrr], my habits are internet surfing, driver downloads and maybe some online gaming now and then. Primarily the unit will be for my wife for her online courses etc.
What is the MTN uncapped lite like. What sort of speeds are expected on the network, what sort of latency is experienced to local servers and international ones. I expect this is not good enough to play World of Warcraft on for instance. But maybe some Battlefield Bad Company 2 on SAIX servers perhaps?
Your feedback will be appreciated.
I'm still trying to get there, only killed 1Gb so far, will try to up the usage before the end of the month to hit the "3Gb barrier". The only gripe so far is that I've only got 3 to 4 bars of HSPA in an area the size of a small desk, even though I'm in Centurion. But so far so good. Will keep everybody posted.
Good question. How is that uncapped if u getting charged after 3gb?
I was also considering this package but last night I activated the 1 day uncapped account. The 128kb is pathetic to say the least. I opened the my broadband website and went to the loo and back but it was still loading. Eventually I closed the browser. Check my speedtest results:

I'm getting my wireless router delivered tomorrow. Can't wait! Will let you know how it goes.
