MTN Uncapped Lite for R299

cant see why you would do that with an uncapped sim, that is just daft

Read my earlier post, the second service of 2gig bundle was loaded incorrectly by MTN as only the uncapped was applied for... hence the bill for R14000

Hey DirkCoetsee

When you say "not to bad signal", what do you consider not too bad?

The only time I got speeds like that was when i was in areas with only Edge coverage. Do you get HSDPA signal at least where you are? Or even regular 3G?

Also, have you tried from diffent sites? Maybe the downloads are just because the site itself ... Unlikely I know, but you never know. Cover all bases, right?

Hi, sorry for only replying now, I have full HSPA signal... That is why I am asking.

Hi all,
In case anybody has ever wondered about the value of the MTN Uncapped Lite @ R289pm, it is incredible value ! Especially for me living in rural (platteland) Limpopo, Ellisras, and also because I live way out of reach of ADSL. For me as rural user the MTN Uncapped lite is MUCH better value than ADSL. Here in the platteland we have a severe shortage of bandwidth, we are 300km from Pretoria. It was ahuge surprise for me to find that I had so much speed and low ping for such a low price.

I've had the Huawei E367 now for just over a month and I've not experienced any disappointment concerning the cap and download speed. I haven't yet noticed much of a difference between office and after hours download speed. I also have a wireless releayd ADSL. Over the last 3,5 weeks I've consumed more than 25Gb on 3G wireless ! For the first time since leaving the UK 2 years ago I am able to watch Youtube without first waiting for a video to buffer. My Steam downloads run at average of 385k p/sec

I am a 'high use' user, easily using 130Gb per month. That is very easy thanks to Youtube and 12Gb game downloads p/week from Steam.

Compare platteland, Ellisras, ADSL vs MTN Uncapped Lite:
ADSL Speed: Full quoted speed on Sundays and Mondays between 02H00-05H00, office hours I rarely get more than 80k p/sec on a 4mb line.
MTN Uncapped Lite: whoooosh ! No less than 120k p/sec. Depending on server('s geo location) I download from can be up to 510k p/sec in business hours. On a recent visit to JHB international Airport speedtest.net presented me with 8,5mb/2,1mb down/up speed !
Coverage: MTN Uncapped seriously lack Vodacom's coverage. People in the major centers rarely experience slow/unresponsive internet, or the dreaded EDGE. You are where all the infrastructure investment happens. It's totally another situation for us here in the outback. If reliability and coverage is more important to you, here in my platteland no one beats Vodacom. If you want speed and true broadband, then get MTN's Uncapped.

Please note: Different (local) speedtest.net servers yields different results. Some yields faster results than others.

Speedtest.net results:
Ellisras ==> MTN Business in Gauteng (2,8Mb) : http://www.speedtest.net/result/1605775164.png

Thank you so much for your Info regarding Uncapped from MTN, quick question, I do not have the best coverage at my area, has anyone gone through the whole help desk phoning and getting someone out to look into that? Did it go smoothly how long did it take? Any Help would be much appreciated!

Pleasure. I haven't yet called the MTN helpdesk, will they even care ?

I Googled and at the time couldn't find a review of MTN's Uncapped Lite. Besides, any reviewer would probably be living or reviewing from an exoplanet called Sandton (or similair). Having used the MTN Uncapped Lite now for another month I am even more pleased with it. Speedwise it beats Vodacom handsdown. Nothing can touch the MTN for speed and ping. The only gripe I have is the crap coverage, EDGE.

Hey guys, is there a mtn rep available on the forum...

I got the Lite package and yes.... it is *@%#!!!! I contacted the 1555 helpdesk more than a week back on call: 00002995272 and was promised that they will come back to me in 24 hours regarding my BAD SPEEDS and never got a call back, 45 hours after the original call was logged, I phoned them again and yes, where promised that I'll get a call back within 24 hours again.... Then I left them a few days, without they calling me back. Phoned them Yesterday again and their calldesk lady (I have their names) told me that her supervisor (I have his name) will call me back within 20min. Never got the call!!! I phoned them 30min back just to get and answer that it is congestion that is causing my bad speeds! the best that I got today was 35kb/s, see the image.

Who can help me! I cancelled my ADSL because i only heard good things about the Lite Package....

This is exactly the reason I never did business with MTN after my first issue!!!

Please help ppl????

I am moving into the Tamberskloof, Cape Town area and I am planning to use quite a bit of GB's. After reading all the articles in this thread from the beginning I am still confused if this deal is worth it or not. The factor I am also considering is the 128kbits shaping in February 2012. A friend of mine told me that S.A is getting a new undersea cable which is going to be active sometime soon. So what is the genereal opinion about this deal...is it worth it??

lets just say MTN Throttles in Feb....

Whats the current best deal for a 3 Gig Cap with a 7.8MPS speed... Including a Free 4 port Wifi Router....???

sharelink b660

How many concurrent connections is allowed on the sharelink b660?

Doen anyone know? Cant pick up anything after browsing this thread.

I started the thread. I am use the internet for what it can deliver, everything. Mostly video, with youtube I can watch what I want when I want and in HD. I use the MTN 3G as a secondary, my ADSL is primary. Hopefully MTN won't be so foolish as to throttle speed back to 128k. If it will be worth it to get the MTN deal now, I can't answer that. You will have to decide for yourself. Suppose MTN drops the speed back to 128k after Feb 2012, one can calculate the absolutre maximum amount of data that one can consume when running at 128 x24hrs p/day over a month.

Here are some of my useage stats, and I've only paid R289,00 so far !
The last week: http://clip2net.com/s/1qbOT
Monthly: http://clip2net.com/s/1qbRz
ADSL useage: http://clip2net.com/s/1qbTj (Very low this month due to line fault which took 2,5 weeks to sort out).

Had this a couple of days (with Sharelink Router). Useful at the moment because we're away on holiday so it is serving 5 laptops. But the main purpose will be as a back-up system to ADSL uncapped. It is very good and I've been very happy with the speeds, which have been quite similar to our 4MB ADSL line and in some cases better.

I don't know why there is any doubt about the throttling from February, but I do hope they will raise limits and throttle speeds during the contract period in response to competition. If not, well, I can't complain because I knew what I was agreeing to in signing.

Hi,

Just a quick question... what version of software are you using on your router as the interface that shows your usage is muvh different than mine...

I am using the standard MTN Connect software which comes standard with the USB dongle.

Is 128kbps enough to stream radio stations?

What can't I do on the internet with the throttled speed?

So my biggest issue is that I want to be able to use Skype (preferably with video, but without is still doable). Would this be possible with the throttled speed? And does anyone here have experience using this service at the throttled speeds? It's quite clear to me that the initial 3gb runs at a very good speed. Now what I need to know is how workable is the throttled speed?
Can I play online games? (Dota, Starcraft 2, FPS games, etc)
Can I Skype? Can I Skype with two-way video?
Can I load Youtube videos in reasonable time frames? (I'll leave you to your own assumption of what "reasonable" is)
