Let's just wait for February 2012, and see what happens... Don't get too excited. 4 months vs 20...

MTN uncapped lite on East rand

Hi All,

anyone using MTN uncapped lite on the east rand? what are speeds and reliability like?

Also anything to watch out for that they could potentially bill out of bundle for?

Thanks

@Mods

why thread merge, yes i saw this thread but was looking for location specific information which is now hidden amongst over a hundred other posts??

Are all provider sub forums modded like this?

i am just asking man, and also there seems to be some confusion in other posts i searched.

I actually use MTN Uncapped Lite, it works very well for me. Granted I do have pretty great signal in my area. I am a little nervous of what they will say next year with regards to where they will throttle etc. But it works fine for me as is, even if they do put a softcap on it eventually. I do all my heavy downloading at the office normally where we have uncapped ADSL.

With regards to out of bundle rates, it is actually a good question. It sounds "dumb" but really it isn't, there were so many conflicting reports about how billing will work that I refused to sign the contract till I got confirmation from the powers that be how billing works. They confirmed that there is no out of bundle charge, and I have not been billed any OOB yet. Best thing to do would be to speak to your local MTN SP outlet (try to find an actual MTN store, not a franchised outlet) - I spoke to the guys at Tygervalley Centre in Bellville and they were very helpful in explaining everything to me and getting me going.

thanks, more or less what have you been averaging in downloading?

It all depends on what I am downloading, but I have gotten quite used to my torrents running between at least 500-800k. I have seen it spike up to just over the 1000 mark a few times as well, but that rarely happens - only when there are a ton of seeds.

Regular HTTP downloads also average at about 750-850 for me. But then it is running at damn close to full capacity, since you cannot do much else on the net then while it downloads...

Hey guys, GREAT forum... Sorry, I am new to this.

I have a question, I had my Lite package for a week now and have not to bad signal but I am unable to get more than 80kbs on HTTP downloads. I see Flidiot get's a lot more than I do!

At this stage I am getting like 26k on http downloads....

Why is this.... Can someone please assist me?

Hey DirkCoetsee

When you say "not to bad signal", what do you consider not too bad?

The only time I got speeds like that was when i was in areas with only Edge coverage. Do you get HSDPA signal at least where you are? Or even regular 3G?

Also, have you tried from diffent sites? Maybe the downloads are just because the site itself ... Unlikely I know, but you never know. Cover all bases, right?

A collegue of mine was billed R14 000 for his first month on this Uncpped Lite Package... Wierd.

Please give a little more info about how this played out.

After investigating it appears there was a 2gig bundle also loaded on his account, the 25gig he downloaded then was billed against the 2 gig account and not the Uncapped lite offering... Apparently, and I use the term with caution, it is now sorted, still waiting for his debit order to run and see the true result...

Huh? Surely then uncapped has its own sim?

I want to get this next year if they keep it uncapped
