MTN Uncapped Lite for R299

Now what are you happy about?
Im a average user, dont download movies etc, get them from work in any case, so no need for huge bandwith / speed / gigs and gigs of data, so nothing at this stage to be unhappy, hell, i still got to pay for another 22 months to pay so can be unhappy now!...

I dont get why they call it uncapped if your traffic gets throttled after a certain amount of traffic. Why not just call it Unlimited surfer if it doesnt meet the standards of other UNCAPPED services?

I've always thought that uncapped means no limit on data that you can download, which this is.
Speed in SA has always been an issue, so uncapped has never really had anything to do with speed. I think you you take it up with MTN they will win it, seeing that uncapped really has to do with the data.
I managed to download about an extra 2.5 gigs last month after my first 3 gigs was gone. So not to bad, but this type of deal would not suit anybody trying to download gigs and gigs of data every month.
I just got feed-up with my home Neotel 2 gigs which always landed up with more than 2 gigs per month and you pay for that extra! this at least you know you are not going to pay more than the 299 per month, no matter how much you download.
Overall, a good deal for the consumer and i suppose for MTN, else they would not give it to us.
And before I sound like a MTN rep, let me stop there.

Self Service Portal ?

Hi all

I am new to MTN...do they perhaps have some sort of self service portal to keep track of usage etc?
I do not make use of the software that comes with the modem as I plug it into a USB router.

Thanks

So i would like to know something else because as far i can tell, it doesnt seem worth the 24month contract cos you will be throttled for majority of the contract, its not worth the 4months of being unthrottled. so is it 128kbs or 128KBS kilobits and kilobytes is different.

128Kbps - kilobits per second, which is 16KB/s - kilobytes per second.

There's a possibility that we won;t be throttled to this speed after 4 months.

128kbits is fine, good enough for general use.

I applied for the uncapped lite for my folks and passed the 3gig mark within 2 days, torrents were going around 650Kbytes per sec, was downloading some pendulum tracks and they were completed before I even knew it.

We live in the Honeydew area where there's still mostly plots, so MTN hsdpa flies in the area.

16Kbs theoretically yeah, but sometimes its faster and sometimes slightly slower

Anyways 16Kb per sec = 960Kb per min = 56.25Mb per hour = 1350Mb per day = 40.5Gb per month, I think its enough for an old couple who just needs it for skype, browsing and occasionally downloading a move or two...besides they're old, they have a lot of patience hehe

MTN Uncapped Lite not working 2 days and counting

Hi Guys

I have recently purchased the MTN Uncapped Lite Router on a 24 month Contract, however since the time I got it nothing works, I can connect to the router but no internet connection, I have no idea what is going on, I am on the verge of cancelling the contract immediately as I am paying for something for which i am not receiving a service. Is anyone else experiencing this problem? Dont even let me get started on MTN Call Center, each time I am given a different excuse, I mean if MTN does not have the infrastructure in place why sell something to the innocent public.

Please let me know if anyone else is experiencing this problem, or if anyone is using a B660 Wireless Router on MTN's Uncapped Lite package and working fine.

Thanks

MTN uncapped lite - not working after 72+ hours

Hi all

Think this is probably my first post on here (EDIT: third it turns out) and, unfortunately, it's about something bad.

Decided to buy the MTN uncapped lite package last week Thursday, being told that it "should" work after about 24 hours. Since then, I've had to call MTN about 5 times and still no luck.
I've demanded a reference number on the third call, but even that does not seem to help as their ticketing system either appears to be down, or my case just vanished or something.
My question now is how do I go about cancelling this package altogether? I'm not really interested in continuing with this package even if it does end up working as I'm not at all impressed with the way MTN goes about customer service.

I wasn't even offered a return call for Pete's sake, instead being told I'll just have to call back later. Keep in mind that each time I tried getting somewhere with MTN's service desks, I ended up having to wait at least 15 minutes per call - at my own cost -

Did anyone else here have the same experience with MTN lately? Can I cancel this package?

Hi Zahid 21, I'm in the same boat as you I'm afraid.
I will be stopping by MTN's store on my way home this afternoon and cancel this contract. I'm really not keen on putting myself through any more misery trying to get somewhere with this with MTN's call centres.
Pretty disappointed tbh, but now I know.

UPDATE:
Calling MTN one last time. Called the 1808 number, ticketing system back online. Ticket still open, no update since Friday. Transferred to their tech centre. Time waited so far is 17 min. and counting.

UPDATE 2:
Got through to a tech agent. According to the agent, they have an issue with all uncapped lite packages where it cannot transfer any data. Since last week Friday apparently.
Asked for an ETA when it will be fixed, no idea.
So then I asked if I can be notified once it has been fixed, so the agent took my number down and assured me I'll be contacted once it's supposed to work, not sure yet whether it was just a case of telling me what I wanted to hear or being genuine. We'll see.

Still plan on cancelling this deal if it still doesn't work by this afternoon at 16:30. Clock's ticking MTN.
Oh yes, total time spent on phone with MTN in this latest episode: 21 min.

UPDATE 3:

14:10 and it now seems to finally work. Seems I'll be holding off on insisting on sticking the modem up someone's colon... for now.

Tip: Use your MTN data SIM card to call the helpdesk at no charge.

8ta aint cover my area ( and I aint in the bush ). MTN uncapped relaunched as unshaped unthrottled promo - No stock - What a load.

Has anybody been experiencing heavy throttling on the MTN Uncapped? Been very slow this week. Getting nothing beyond 50kB/s.

MTN Sh@relink B660 Router Updated Crashes The Router

Hi all, got the uncapped pro with the Hauwei B660 3G router. If you have one then the MTN dashboard should be familiar. Problem is that if you make use of the firmware update feature in it and download the latest firmware update from Hauwei Devices website and then install it, your router will be useless to you in South Africa. The firmware update also replaces the dashboard with a new dashboard for users of the Next G telecoms company in Australia. Furthermore the http login does not accept the Username: admin and Password: admin as correct credentials. The Next G dashboard also uses a APN that is not compatible with any of our providers "telstra.internet". Grrrrrrrrr

So all be weary, do not upgrade your firmware from the Huawei Devices website.

I have been to Mtn shops and it seems I met a confused lot. One shop at Golden Acre said there is no such thing as Uncapped Lite being truely uncapped. They said the will charge a rate after 3Gb softcap. where can i get ppl who knows

They definately don't kno. Was at a local mall. 3rd of October. They were all clueless. I showed them the myBB page. "Nothing has been communicated with us sir."

So true, seems some MTN shops dont know wtf they talking about when asked about the uncapped lite & the 4 months "open4all" period.
