MTN Uncapped Lite for R299

They have always been a bit stupid with updating the offers on the website, I remember back in the day when I got my HTC Touch Pro through them, there was a similar issue. The offer on the site didn't match up with what was actually on offer at the time.

I got all my info from MTN Direct initially - they were very helpful, even though I had specifically said that I am going to buy in-store and not through the MTN Direct call centre. 083 123 3667.

If you have an MTN cellphone somewhere, you could also call the MTN Data support guys - they are a little sharper than the average tool in the shed. From MTN number you can call 1555, any other phone I think is just 083 1555.
 
Just a tiny update... After the 1st of March I received the sms that says you are being throttled. I have used connectify to connect my ps3 to the net and do a couple of updates because the router needs a better aerial. So now at the end of the month I see the total data used is about 30.5Gb. On the throttled speed i could play PWI and Unreal tournament. I didn't test all my games online because of the ps3 updates I was doing. Not a bad month on this "uncapped" lite deal. Just wish they would do something about the signal.

I've actually never tried online gaming while being throttled - was your experience OK? Maybe I should install BF again and give it a go - I would test WoW but fook me, still got like 10GB to go to update that fully...
 
I have tried Runes of Magic online while capped. No problems.
On APB Reloaded I die alot. I don't know if I suck or if it is my connection. Still is fun :)

Do you have a cooldown period, in which you can cancel if you aren't happy? Just curious as to how their contracts work now - pretty sure you aren't going to mind too much, even when capped. MyBB opens fast for me as throttled as I am :D

Nope, they were unsure but in the end said no.
Now I have been waiting since bloody Monday for their credit checks etc to finish so I can get the modem.
I would like it before the long weekend, but at this rate it does not look like it will happen.

Damn, that is kind of a long wait.... If you haven't heard anything back from them in the next few hours I would maybe just follow up with the store again. For all three of my contracts they told me that it could be between 8-24 hours - usually was by the next morning, first one included. Granted that was before they were Ayoba, so maybe all the they stole some Ayoba from the credit dept. to distribute elsewhere... :P
 
My speeds still suck getting 37kB/s max... even since the beginning of the month... What speeds are you guys getting?
 
Got my package wednesday, wasted the cap quickly to test and I'm getting 40kB/s per second constantly when downloading on steam whilst throttled.

+- 3Mbps when watching youtube vids, more or less the same as what I'm used to with 8ta and cell c
I think it went to 5Mbps when downloading from steam but I wasn't monitoring it closely

Update:
Trying a old torrent and getting 25-30kBs on with utorrent.
Webpages open with a few seconds delay
Quite ok vs what i was expecting

Ok have been pounding it almost 24/7 since I got it

Normal browsing and steam is at +-40kbps
Torrents are weird, and I compared it to 8ta.
On 8ta I get 100kbps constantly no problem
on MTN goes into some sort of loop :
it will switch to HSPA+ (2 bar strength) and download @ +-40kbps for a few seconds
then switch between WCDMA and HSPA+(1 bar strength) and seem to loose signal strength
then suddenly it will switch to HSPA+ (2 bar strength) and download @ +-40kbps again
ad nauseam

I suspect its their throttling

I'm not being throttled. Been full speed since the start of my billing month (~10GB later).

I'm afraid to abuse it though... :-3
