Octotel gave me feedback yesterday about Sunrise Beach Village going live. Apparently they still require landowners approval after we have repeated told them that there is no Body Corporate any longer. They have no ETA for the area but estimate a date of End May to mid June.

Thanks for the feedback. I am in Costa Da Gama and no trenching as yet :(

Well, I've got the little grey box on my wall now, taunting me every time I use my slow-ass ADSL....

Yip octotel updated to say they are behind with the network build and will only go live mid April. I've canceled my octotel pre-order as their network performance has been horrific over the last 2 months, even after they did a supposed core upgrade. I'm going to put in a pre order with frogfoot instead.

That doesn't sound good. From what I've heard Octotel is doing my side of the main road and Frogfoot are doing the other side.

That's unlucky, we're one of the few suburbs in the unique position of having more than 1 provider to choose from. But perhaps the octotel network will improve, only time will tell.

I'm on Zandvlei side (near the vlei), Octotel is the process of laying fibre here by us (we in a complex but theres no governing body) they have installed boxes on the walls opposite us. Looks like they installed a Fibre node here. We were told it would be going live in May and we're using LTE (Cell C) at the moment. (Its really **** to be honest lol). We purchased the Huawei B618 and use Cell C/ Rain LTE but the speeds suck, If we do not go live by the end of May then its back to (Dstv/Rain LTE) people that I live with are really frustrated at the moment because watching netflix on low quality buffers and nobody else is using the wifi. I told them I could install a Antenna from poynting but they aren't prepared to spend any more money which is understanable. Upload speeds can reach 30Mbps on rain lte at night time. The tower does not support the 2600Mhz (B38) frequency so its congested. I have the locations of the towers. One appears to be near false bay train station and the other is near the main road near the highschool.

I won't go into too much detail but I've used the Huawei tool from a member on the forum to force the 2600Mhz frequency (Yes the router does support it). I have also tried forcing the individual bands for Cell C but leaving it to aggregate both bands seemed to be the most stable.

I'm on Rain as well and it sucks during the day, often running at less than 2Mbit/s.

The Facebook group says we're looking at end of May to mid June to go live.

[Edit]: I'm near the vlei as well. Also tried the 2600Mhz frequency but the signal is too poor.

Hey so the people trenching into our complex contacted me this morning. I have attached the letter octotel has emailed me and I thought I would share the info here since we're all eager to get an update so hopefully this will shed some light on how their process works and gives you a rough estimate of the installation time.

@Rain sucks in Muizenberg, I rarely get 1Mbps - totally useless. I was on @cellc, it's even worse :)

Maybe Rain will get better once people start going on fibre. :)

It seems like I'm getting a good signal, it's just totally congested during the day. At around 2am in the morning I get 20-30Mbit/s downloads and can actually get stuff updated.

Yeah I did mention that the towers in Muizenberg do not support the 2600Mhz frequency and due to almost everybody owning the Huawei B315 that functions off the 1800Mhz frequency we will experience congestion.

And during that 12/5am window with less attenuation and noise in the air we will experience higher speeds.

I've done testing in several locations and the best speeds I have seen was in Lakeside (+40Mbps up and down) and Claremont (70Mbps up and down). - Using a Huawei Mate 9 with Carrier Aggregation enabled, yes I know rain doesn't allow it at the moment but the app https://apkpuredotcom/netmonster/cz.mroczisdotnetmonster still shows it using both bands even though it doesn't say 4G+

I have upload speeds in the region of 20Mbps in my location.

They just need to upgrade the tower to support 2600Mhz. But the signal of all the providers in my area seems to be crappy, (Vodacom/Mtn/Cell C/Telkom Mobile) keep changing to 3G but it drops packets like crazy. Rain seems to be the only one that keeps a stable connection up until 4pm through to 12am.

Looks like I got it wrong. My B315 doesn't connect at 2600Mhz at all, only at 2500Mhz but with only 1 bar of signal.
