Actually there aren't. What you have to remember is Satellite operators (like Multichoice) license content to broadbast on the channels they create. Have you seen Sony Entertainment (SET)? Theoratically, it should broadcast a lot of good content but since Multichoice has licensed all the content for Africa, they can only show the old stuff.

And while you're at it can you actually explain the difference between MM1, MM2, MStar, SET and TCM? (Point in case this month there was a movie on MM2 from 1992..)

I'm sorry but your assessment is "unrealistic".
Most of us do not want al the B#S channels that are being put in a nice 'lube' "bouquet" for us.

Which are you referring to?

For the record, it doesn't cost much to license all the secondary channels like Travel Channel, Fashion TV, Home Channel, etc. Even MTV, VH1, CNN, Discovery, etc doesn't cost that much.

A lot is spent on the shows, movies and sport.

So that gives them the right to force you to take on board a whole bunch of channels you don't actually want/need so they can advertise we have xxx amount of channels...
So how much do they cost anyways? (Those un-economically viable channels?)
You seem to have some inside info on this.

Oh dear, I'm defending Mutichoice. lmao.

TCM is for classic movies. Turner Classic Movies (TCM) and Sony Entertainment (SET) are not owned Multichoice, hence they don't have any control over them.

MM1 and MM2 are meant to show a wide variety of new and newish movies. Mnet Stars shows a older (15 to 30 years) popular movies.

What's wrong with showing a movie from 1992 on MM2? How many movies do you think there are? We've got 3 movie magic channels broadcasting 24 hours a day. Repeats are a part of life. Every operator does that.

If you get a PVR, you'll always have something to watch. Also, if you request them to show stuff, trust me they really make an effort to try and screen it (that's my experience).

Ok so if I ditch the "shows" + "movies" + "sports" how much will it cost me then?

What's left? It should cost around R 100 pm.

It could cost R350 per month for selected good stuff (shows, movies and sport), but since Mutichoice has a monopoly, it makes business sense for them to have the one premium bouquet. You don't have to like them. I don't. I've realised there's no point whining. R500 pm for all the stuff is not a rip off. Perhaps we should be able to pick and choose and spend a bit less but that's not going to happen.

ODM has a shadow of funding (relative to industry) compared to what Neotel, so don't expect too much.

Ok - so thus "whining" = complain about a service that you are unhappy with.
No point in it?
Not going to happen?

How much have you really learned?

There are options available from Mutichoice, DSTV Select and Compact. I know they're not great, but they're there.

What would you like? How much would you like to pay? And tell me do you like the content on DSTV Premium?

I used to complain too, until I look at the offerrings of other operators around the world. IMO, for TV, we have it good.

Choice - Multi = No Choice

Apart from what's on the 'Documentary Channels' NO.

So get about 5000 people to sign a petition to ask Multichoice to put together a bouquet with the Documentary channels for R200. I bet if they do that you'll still whine because it won't have everything else.

Multichoice may have a monopoly but the situation is nothing liek our broadband situation.

So thus you are in favor of consumers keeping their mouth shut rather?
You and your PVR?

No not at all.

I asked what do you want and How much are you willing to pay for it? Be realistic, if its commercially viable, I'm sure it will be done. However, I doubt it.

Remember both Telkom Media and ESat (Etv) have licenses but they haven't done anything. Maybe the markets not big enough or maybe what you're expecting is not commercially viable.

Let me pay for only the channels I want, so that the monthly sub can be cheaper please. Anyone in agreement?

Look around the world, I'm not aware of any operators similar to Multichoice who let you choose the channels you want.

I define similar to Multichoice as operators to license content to broadcast on the channels they create.

R200? I don't think so..:D
Listen.
The fact of the matter is this:
S.A. consumers are tired of being ripped off and prescribed to what form or nature their communications should take.

PS - What's your internal extension number at MultiChoice?
