No not at all.

I asked what do you want and How much are you willing to pay for it? Be realistic, if its commercially viable, I'm sure it will be done. However, I doubt it.

Remember both Telkom Media and ESat (Etv) have licenses but they haven't done anything. Maybe the markets not big enough or maybe what you're expecting is not commercially viable.

Ok - so here's another example.

DSTV gets 'exclusive rights' to screen ABSA Currie Cup matches and then does'nt broadcast the lot?
I reckon a they should declare at the beginning of a season which matches they intend to televise and the rest be ceded to SABC / ETV.

Look around the world, I'm not aware of any operators similar to Multichoice who let you choose the channels you want.

I define similar to Multichoice as operators to license content to broadcast on the channels they create.

Yup - And when Google and Firefox were not around nobody could imagine the world differently either..

R200? I don't think so..:D
Listen.
The fact of the matter is this:
S.A. consumers are tired of being ripped off and prescribed to what form or nature their communications should take.

PS - What's your internal extension number at MultiChoice?

nah mate. I don't work at Multichoice.

In general I don't disagree with what you're saying. But you have to be realistic about what can be achieved.

Also go back to my original post. I said "my personal opinion", because I personally would not like a situation where another operator licensed the stuff I like. Because then I would need both and that would be more expensive.

I don't hate Multichoice so much because I've been overseas and seen what's on offer.

So I take it you are not against change unless it happens 'overseas' first?
Why do you accept that it is easy to follow and hard to lead?

I don't rugby, but that is *****ed. It's like I said they've licensed all the good content for several years ahead. That's why I said don't expect too much from ODM. Telkom Media and Esat already gave up before starting.

If you think ODM will offer your documentary channels for what you want to pay, you're deluded. It's not commercially viable.

Dude that's not it at all. Don't irritate me. I never said Multichoice was great.

I asked you to be realistic. I asked you to tell me what you wanted and how much you would be willing to pay for it? YOU HAVE NOT ANSWERED. PERHAPS IT'S BECAUSE IT'S NOT COMMERCIALLY VIABLE.

Overseas networks own the content so how do you expect SA Companies to lead? Tell me?

Deluded - Google it...

Actually I don't even have a clue what ODM is.

"Commerially viable"...
Er.. What about those channels on DSTV that are "cheap" to acquire?

PS - What's your internal extension ?

Hence R200 bucks per month, but you said no thanks. As would many.

Can any Network Provider provide reasonable internet access and bandwidth for under R150 per month? Exclude Cellullar providers because there primary access point is Voice not Data. Can Neotel or anyone else do it profitably? So how are PAY TV operators going to do it for R200 or R300? Mutlichoice knows this, hence they structure their bouquets like that.

Maybe you should ask Google to apply for PayTV License. They can even provide it for free. Funded by Ads, lots of them.

I asked you what your best offer was.. You have not answered either.
Maybe that's not economically viable either?

MultiChoice knows this:
How many PAY TV operators are there in S.A.?

last reply. There are none operating yet. But 3 have licenses (I'm excluding WOW* as we're talking operators). On Digital Media (ODM) are planning to launch next year. ESat (Sister company to etv) have decided against becoming an operator, so they launched E News (24 hour news channel).

The last is Telkom Media. However Telkom sold their stake to a Chinese company because they didn't feel it was commercially viable to invest the R7 billion needed to do it properly. The chinese company have not released when they plan to launch.

*WOW is a christian broadcasting channel.

Im not expecting ODM to have any of DSTV's content.
The alternative to DSTV is?
Don't even mention SABC!
Anything new will be welcomed.
We are all forgetting how censored multichoice programming really is.
ODM can really dent the giants with naughty shows that im sure all the late night ETV viewers would pay for!
And for anime enthusiasts they can bring on the hentai!
What happened to BBC food?
Bring on some cooking channels and watch those middle aged women enforce the law on the head of the home husbands.
How about those really lovely classic horrors that you cannot buy on dvd because it just aint available in SA or have not left tape format.
Oh and revive the SCI-FI channel.
ODM can be good, and this kind of programming isnt expensive.
