MWEB Gaming Feedback

And so it starts, i thought my prediction would only come true later this week, but Monday and it has already come true.
Be prepared not to have a single full week of nice play without issues for the next year or so if i have to make another prediction.

Sillicur, I read a lot of threads about OpenWeb Gold(200 rands more), but there is people on those accounts who play wow with good pings(200-300) and there are some people who do 100 gigs of data in 5 days(torrents..) so IF you want to move I suggest that account, I would have moved over but I canceled my cancellation form due to the new SAT-3 bandwidth that they deployed

I like to complain and its my right to complain if I pay for a service. Thats just it, we should complain if its not working 100%. Thats the whole ****ing point of this. Personal insults is not the point of this, so kindly **** off.

You also have the right to get another service but as you said you like to complain so carry on, also swearing is not called for as I didn't once insult you in my previous post you seem to just have bad attitude so I don't see you being happy with any service you go to.

Just thought I'd chime in and say that I've had a huge reduction in international latency. Its now the lowest I've ever seen on any SA account (CPT). I'm getting a consistent 185ms to Europe ingame. WoW still has it's ups and downs, but its now the best I've seen it on my Mweb account without using a workaround like Battle Ping. I've been getting 185ms-400ms in WoW which isn't constant, so something is still interfering with it, but that's a massive improvement over how its been the past few months.

Thanks for the feedback Blackhand. We're aware of the slightly choppy experience that you've mentioned and are working on some optimizations to smooth this out - please keep us posted on your experience.

Same as Blackhand, except that my latency in WoW is now a constant 400 on a 384k line and service. That is without using any proxy. Its better than the 800ms+ that I used to get :D By the way Will@Mweb, did your network guys load the new firmware that you talked about a while ago?

Thanks Beanbag. There have been a number of updates to the traffic manager over the course of us working on this, the vendor releases updates periodically and they have also supplied us with a couple of hotfixes over the last while to try and directly address the issue we had.
The SAT-3 change this weekend obviously had a very positive impact, but the networks team have also informed me that they have come up with some additional configuration tweaks that they are in the process of fine tuning that will hopefully provide additional levels of assurance for sensitive traffic like WoW.

@Will,

Unable to log into steam this morning. Logs fine via website but client is not getting through. What's changed? Been fine before.

probably steam......we all know that is $#!7 Application..........

Edit :P

I remember how we cursed and ground our teeth when Valve introduced Steam with Counterstrike 1.6, the more things change, the more they stay the same :D

Hey Will,

my WoW latency was absolutely brilliant since the Sat-3 change, but logging in today it's sitting on 8k-10k ms again. Any idea what's going on and when it will be fixed?

Hi Jovs, have you checked for other factors, like downloads running etc? I will be testing this evening as I want to get a better idea of the fluctuating ping that some users have described. Let's keep a close eye on this and see if its anything more than a brief spike, which may be due to network fine tuning which is still being done in Cape town.

Hey Will,

have NetLimiter Pro running on my PC, checks for all internet activity. Checked it as soon as I noticed my latency, nothing else using my internet except for WoW at that moment.
Did a reboot of my PC and a reset of the modem as well but no luck. Gave it about 30 mins to see if it will settle down but nothing changed. Currently using my backup account but will check again on MWeb a bit later tonight.

hmm - 300-350ms here at the moment, can you check some cmd line traces etc for me, remind me are you in CPT, or JHB?

Is anyone else having a problem tonight?

Trace complete.

Allot better than earlier this afternoon but still higher than the wonderful latency I've had the past couple of days.

Update: Standing in SW with my banking alt, lag seems to have settled on 629ms.

Can't quite make sense of that I must admit. cmdline looks fine - I've been "testing" since I posted earlier - I don't think I've seen it go over 350, even in SW - at the moment I'm actually sitting just below 300, what realm are you on?

Playing on Draenor realm, just switched back to MWeb account and latency is back to green - 458ms

I'm on Twilight Hammer - had a little patch now were it went up to about 500 for maybe 15 minutes, but now it's back to the mid 300's
