MWEB is so funny!

@Spyk3r: +1

It's a vicious circle. People are shaped so they go the SSL route, which puts more strain on the network, so they shape more, so more people SSL, which puts more strain on the network ... :)

The beauty of being a consumer is you just cancel your account and move on to the next place... I have done just that. But kept 3gb on mweb just so I can play blackops with good pings :D

If you aren't happy, don't stick around...

Indeed. Each ISP has it's own T&C and AUP. The IS-related ones throttle and/or shape (AFAIK) the top 50% of 4096kbps users. I don't think there is an ISP offering unshaped uncapped with no T&C or other "restrictions", such that you can download on any/all protocols 24/7 at line speed every month. Certainly not at an equivalent price to other ISPs shaped accounts.

I'm on a 4mb line and use about +- 100gb monthly. Is it a breach of the AUP if i suck my line dry one day in say a whole week? Overall usage is low for a 4mb lline but on some days its very high. Just curious

Not at all as far as I know, just as long as you're not unshaping the shaped protocols. I suppose you'd even get away with that for just one day, but that's when it is in breach of the AUP.

No, I think you've missed the bus boet.

Pretty rich seeing as you've literally ignored every reply that was on the topic which you created, and now just turned your thread into a complaint about slow news server speeds.

But in any case to help you out here, people have been complaining about the shaped news server for ages, it's much faster to get things from filehosting sites (hotfile, fileserve, netload etc etc.) You basically just search filestube.com or all the hundreds of forums that give links to just about anything hosted there. It can be more "work" than downloading from a news server I guess, especially when you have to put in captcha codes for every download, but it gets good speeds.

You can also throw in some torrents (I'm sure MWeb doesn't actually mind seeing as they have thousands of users already using torrents either way) to push up the overall speed. I can usually max out my line pretty easily with a few filehosting sites running.

I got a message from a friend via Facebook, apparently, he got the e-mail too, and he basically has been buying games on STEAM and downloading non stop... he has also been told he is ABUSING.

I think MWEB need to catch a wakeup!

That or MWEB are really struggling after today's little drama!

Hi Nicolas

Steam traffic is classified in a completely different way and would not be flagged. You have recieved a first warning for extensive use of SSL tunneling to increase the speed of your downloads on a shaped product. This is in convravention of the AUP and as you've now been warned, regardless of how you feel about this policy, I trust that you will comply with it going forward. If you require full speed P2P please move to an unshaped solution.

Many Thanks
Will

Well Nicolas is actually far more anonymous than gdiza, if you googled gdiza you'd get his real name etc whereas Nicolas actually is anonymous. :p But that's just in this case.

That doesn't change anything. If I PM my details, will I then be addressed by first name on the forum?

Unlikely. We've only seen one "slip" by an MWeb rep. in this regard, despite many more than one person sending a PM to the reps over the last months. If your suggestion were true, then they all the would have to be constantly making the same mistake and we would be seeing first names in all posts from them.
