Mweb Local Uncapped Trial

They saw people milking it and they saw a money making opportunity.
Then Telkom opened it up again, probably to attract people and then cancelled it again once they had the customers.
Mweb probably organised the same thing and now have cancelled it (probably due to paying the bill) or they have gotten the customers.
The only place where you can go crazy and know the bill you will pay is Neotel and even that is not working properly yet.

Stop threatening to move (most people) and just pay the bill, you can't always find AMAZING bargains... things will happen and you'll probably just bounce from ISP to ISP.

You make it sound like that is a bad thing?

PETITION To MWEB TO KEEP LOCAL UNCAPPED

Yes. f**** being loyal. Its all about the best prices!

If they start charging. I was already on 25Gb will they add it to my bill? Cause if they do I will take them to court!

They should call you and tell you or have sent a e-mail about it, they have to let you know via E-mail or letter etc.

But just to be safe, I'd stop... those bills can be expensive, trust me, I know!

lol SPAM the billing department tomorrow! :D *joking*

If they have not physically warned you about it, call them.
If nothing is said, then carry on or they don't know, cool!
Make sure you take the name of the person you spoke too (they record calls) so you have something to back you up on.
But if you carry on, yes, you can try take MWEB to court, but you will come very short.

I wouldn't be surprised if the guys at Mweb are monitoring this thread. :)

Telkom's ADSL manager admitted to me that he monitors MyBroadBand.co.za often.

this response from mweb in regards to my query on this issue:
"Dear MWEB member

Thank you for taking the time to contact us.

Please be informed that the heading under the ADSL usage on the software that we use always did say 10GB however client were able to go over it as it has been been set to cut off at 10GB however from next month this will be implicated.

Please contact us should you require any further technical assistance."

Well that's great news that this will only take effect next month

However, sounds like they were planning on rolling this out this month, why would they add a metre to cut off service if they are only going to enforce this new rule next month.

10 gigs for me, is kind of skimpy, especially from an uncapped figure
I mean really they could they could have tried various numbers i.e. 100gigs - 50gigs etc.

I for one will now be able to make use of their service should this stay at 10gigs, it's just not cricket if ones does a little market re-search.

I would like to keep the email address however it would probably work out better if I just purchase my own domain name.

Sad Stuff, I'm guessing another company will receive a large cash injection soon, through it's new local only subscribers

I'm not going to stand for paying more for something that I'm already paying 7 times more than its worth.
There's a difference between customer loyalty and plain absurd.

Ill support them if they offer some sort of competative advantage, which in their case used to be local uncapped, why else should I pay 50 rand more for a service that's router through Telkom anyway?

I think this was just to get their figures up so they could sell the company and now that Telkom has acquired MWeb it doesn't matter if they get the money from local only accounts or not. http://www.mg.co.za/article/2008-11-10-telkom-buys-mweb-africa-from-naspers

Dear MWEB Member

We would like to notify you that you have used approximately 50% of your monthly 1 GB ADSL cap. You have -4893761294 BYTES of your 1 GB ADSL monthly cap remaining. If you exceed your 1 GB ADSL monthly cap and choose not to increase it for the remainder of this month, your ADSL Internet access to international websites, services and content will stop. You will however still have access to local (South Africa-based) websites and your MWEB e-mail account (you can send and receive e-mail regardless of its origin or destination).

If you would like to access international websites after your base cap has been reached, the following four options are available to you.

We would like to notify you that you have used approximately 70% of your monthly free 10 GB of local only access part of your ADSL cap. You have 2.90 GB of your 10 GB of free local only access ADSL monthly cap remaining. If you exceed your free 10 GB of local only access part of your ADSL monthly cap, your ADSL Internet access to websites, services and content will stop. You will however still have access to your MWEB e-mail account (you can send and receive e-mail regardless of its origin or destination).

Seems they have finished editing their usage message now as yesterdays made little sense. Guess its back to 2GB IS accounts :s, ahhhh well it was good while it lasted. I should have really recorded the couple of telephone conversations I had with MWeb where they told me the uncapped local will never end.

Please post if any of you guys find an alternative to 2GB IS accounts.

That mweb staff member needs english lessons :D

will also be cancelling my account.. 10gb is just plain pathetic, they really need to come up with a more appropriate local cap, if any.

I hate to say it but I guess I'll just be moving back to TelkomInternet....

10GB ??!?! Laughable!

If it were, say, 50GB - 100GB, I'd consider, but going from uncapped to 10GB while paying the same... Just shocking.

New ISP + purchase domain (for email)... Here I come

Okay, well, I've sent Mweb a e-mail asking for clarification... Pointless sitting here and pondering the answer, let's get it direct from the old horses mouth!
