MWEB reduces uncapped ADSL prices

im gonna laugh if telkom doesnt do anything. everybody is on the line revving their engines and telkom is in the pits shining the chrome...

I've just seen Openweb advertising 384k uncapped @R159. Guess where all these guys are going? Come on MWEB, surely you can do something for these small guys? After all, most of them have probably been with you since the beginning of time?

@ MWEB Guy

I just called your Sales and Client Services Dept querying about costs for the little guy below 1MB and according them the price cut is for the peeps on 1MB and up only? They say that the <1MB users may - used loosely - enjoy reductions beginning 01-Jun-12 but he is not going to confirm and/or commit to this statement?

I think it unfair that someone on a 384k uncapped service(R220pm) pays more than someone on 1MB(R199pm)? Yes, its only 30 bucks but hey...its still R30?

Telkom CANNOT and WILL not commit as to when ALL peeps under 1MB will be auto-upgraded to 1MB as its dependant on availability and exchange compatibility? So until such time as the upgrade is completed, I will still be paying R220? If the MWEB account is upped to 1MB, can it still be used on a 384k line speed?

So...what say you MWEB Guy?

@ The Forum...Yes, Yes I know..should've upped to 512k or 1MB but we had probs where line was unstable.

Now...Telkom has now announced any reduction in rental rates? Anyone seen it anywhere ...or I am being greedy?

Thanks in advance for feedback

the Data part of the 384 bundle is also R199 now. it says this clearly in the article, and if you look at Mweb's website today.
If you spoke to someone who told you otherwise, either you misunderstood or they were plain wrong.

And the difference between R199 and R220 is R21 not R30... this calculation error makes me think it was you who misunderstood.

So according to everyone hopes and dreams telkom upgrades 384 to 1mb. And 1mb to 2mb. Then the 1mb uncapped with telkom should cost 500 with all costs. That is something to consider. But its ALL upto telkom, the broadband champion of the SA consumer!

Hi bradlesliect

If you are on a 384k Data Only product your product will effectively be 'merged' with the 1mb data only product come the 1st of June. In other words your subscription will be reduced from R219-00 PM to R199-00 PM and you will be able to go up to 1mb speeds.

However we cannot control Telkom's line rental costs so at this stage without any confirmation of a change in Telkom line speeds you would have to increase your line speed with Telkom to enjoy the benefits of the 1mb data product.

This is also why we have continued to offer a 384k all inclusive product, also at a reduced price of R329-00, for those customers who wish to remain on a 384k service for now.

Thank you for your valuable comment, it will be taken under advisement

1. Data part - I KNOW THAT...I'm not a moron.
2. I did read the article and checked the site.
3. The person(s) I spoke at MWEB DID tell me that if I had the LINE + DATA(384k DATA) with MWEB, I would see a reduction in costs. I do have both line + data via MWEB, only the uncapped 384k is via MWEB.
4. R20, R30 - My humblest apologies for the error and keep your snotty comment re that to yourself..IT WAS A MISTAKE!
5. "I misunderstood"...hmmm...I don't know what to say except that I don't appreciate your comment.

I think you may have misunderstood or maybe I should rephrase...why will 1MB be sold @R199 and the 384k still at R220 and just for clarity I am talking about DATA only

PS. Apologies for caps but I find ppl like you extremely annoying. Just because you think / feel you more superior in intellect than others, gives you no right to try and embarrass those you see as inferior. Should wish you comment without sarcasm, please feel free to do so...otherwise just be quiet.

Hi Brad

The thread is moving a bit fast, but please go back a page and check my response to you I hope it clarifies the situation.

My apologies if anyone on the phones gave you confusing feedback. Pricing changes are quite sensitive in nature and cannot be pre-released to staff, but we have done our best to make sure everyone in the business got all of the neccesary FAQs and other information first thing this morning to fully understand the changes and answer any questions :)

Thanks for clarity. Appreciated. I made two calls to your CSC and both times the guys were unsure. This explanation is perfect.

Hey man, I'm sorry if I offended you. my last comment was rude and unnecessary, I apologize.

But yea. the point is, 384 HAS been reduced to R199.

From the article: "The price of MWEB’s 384kbps uncapped ADSL accounts has also been dropped to R199 from the previous R219."

If someone told you otherwise, they were confused.

Mweb guy, any word on how you'll adjust 1mb users for the 2mb upgrade? Will users on 1mb be automagically moved to 2mb? Will the cost be the same as now? More? Less?

Hi BasJohn

If Telkom does upgrade 1Mbps ADSL Lines to 2Mbps, ISP’s may decide to introduce a new product at 2Mbps at a different price; but this will vary from ISP to ISP - at this stage we can’t foresee what will happen with regards to pricing in the future. We will however, not increase prices on existing products without customer consent. Please be assured that we will always continue trying to deliver the best value to our customers.

It's really difficult for us to comment on this one Basjohn as we're really heading into rumor mill country regarding a 1mb to 2mb move.

I did raise this one myself with our products gurus and the best answer they can give me at this point is that the most likely scenario would be the creation of a unique 2mb product with it's own pricing, but really we are all just guessing and speculating here until we see what our friends at Telkom do to the line speeds :)

jislaaik people can moan. MyMoanband Im telling you.

*snap* - see MWEB Guy made sure he read the FAQ's this morning :D

Really MickeyD right now you guys know everything we do, which is what was in rpm's article yesterday on possible line speed changes.

384k to 1mb seems likely (we're all holding thumbs), 1mb to 2mb is rumoured.
